not sure if this is the right category to ask computer question, but this category is way more active than the other one, so here is it.

I have a compaq 1800T laptop, and whenever I press the Enter key, it would return a : instead of <enter>. What could be wrong?
Don't think I have a virus, as I am using AVG. Could this be a driver problem? I hope my keyboard is not shot, as it is out of warranty.

thanks!

rich

please dont tell me my problem is "you have a compaq" or silly comment like that. :p

Go to http://www.bootdisk.com/ and download a dos bootable floppy.
If you don't get the same problem in dos, it's your windows keyboard settings.
If you do have the same problem, try plugging in an external keyboard and doing the same thing in windows AND dos.
If the external keyboard doesn't do the same thing then odds are it's your keyboard.
You can probably order a replacement keyboard from compaq parts for probably much less than $200, no clue how much though.

I don't think NumLock would affect the "ENTER" key.
