Hi. I've been facing this issue since i've built my new PC. My config is as follows

Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3P
Intel Core i5-750
G.Skills 4 x 2GB DDR 1600 F3-12800CL9D-$GBNQ
OCZ OCZ500MXSP 500W power supply
EVGA GeForce 9800 GT 512mb

When i do a cold boot my computer will give continuous short beeps for a while, pause and gives the short beeps again. If i interpret the beeps correctly it seems to say "power error".

I've removed all the cables and left only the video card, 1 SATA SSD hard disk and 1 piece of memory in DDR slot 1 but i still get the error sound.

If i power off my PC (by pressing and holding the power button) and power it on again the sound will NOT happen anymore. It only happens during a cold boot eg. if i try again after 3+ hours of keeping my PC off.

Can anyone pls help me with the problem? Really appreciate it.

The BIOS is already flashed to the latest F9 version. I've even cleared the CMOS but problem is still there.

Doing any OC? Try loading Opt defaults and disable XMP (if there's).
Did you turn off the main switch on your power supply?
Also disable EuP if there's any.

Hi there. No O/C at all. Already load Opt defaults and disabled XMP. What is EuP?

It sounds like your system has a problem when a component is cold. If possible, you want to isolate the problem. Try plugging in another vid card. If not, try another power supply. If that doesn't show the problem, you could have a faulty motherboard or CPU.

You may try a different Ps and see if it makes a difference.
Although you seem to have adequate PS, now, it's a quick n easy troubleshoot.
Quality Ps with enough juice can save a lot of headaches.

I suspect my (really old rig & 300 watt PS); isn't getting the juice it wants.
When it's colder weather it takes two or three boots for the system to stay on.
I used to warm it up with the wife's hair dryer, after all it is the wifes machine, hehe.
I know, I'm lazy. But after the fans and HD have been turning a little while and warm up, no problems. Shameless.
Good luck.

Thanks guys! I'd try changing to a different PS - i have an older one - hope it fits and works.

Also looks like gskill ram has quite some problems - probably try to test it out next

Make sure you have all the power connector plugged in the mobo and VGA card. My guess would be the RAM having some problems or the PSU. You can try and increase hard disk initialization latency set to higher value so it waits for the mobo to boot first and then the hard drive

Hi. I've actually changed to another PS - 350W and tested with 1 piece of the RAM together with CPU & HSF. However the problem is still there. At least PS is eliminated as the culprit.

Next i got another DDR3 ram and inserted 1 piece (Samsung 1GB PC3-10666 DDR3-1333MHz) (M378B2873EH1-CH9). This time my PC cold booted successfully without the beeping sounds! I've tried it another time - this time with 2 pieces of the Samsung DDR3 PC10666 RAM and it also cold booted fine!

So it looks like my GSkill DDR3 1600 RAM is not that compatible with my mobo. I'm not quite sure what to do next - to try tweaking some BIOS memory settings (any advise?) , RMA and ask for a replacement OR return the RAM altogether and get a PC1333 model instead?

Very strange. I have the same NQ series RAM in my system, and I have no problems whatsoever with it. I also have a P55A Gigabyte board. Just stick with the RAM that is working and call it a day... That's my .02

Hi guys... just want to update that I've RMA-ed the 4 pieces of RAM. The replacements have arrived and i've slotted them all in and my PC boots up perfectly now!

PC is finally working fine after 20+ days of troubleshooting and waiting. I wonder if i should've just RMA-ed it right away in the first place.

Thanks for your help!
