Help! My Game server is laggy !

My setup

AMD 1600+ XP
EPOX 8K3A MB
512 MEGS DDRAM PC2100
1.5/768 Cable connection (Charter pipeline)
Linksys Router
WINXP (internal firewall: OFF)

Usually run ZONEALARM, but turn it off when playing.

The problem:

I have no problems playing Dungeon Siege on other servers, but when I tried to setup a game server everyone that joins has some major lag problems.

Did the following at DSLreports.com:
Tweak Test: (RWIN=20320(close to it))
Line Quality: (NO problems from East or West coast)
Speed Test: always get around 1472/711

Router setup:
Port forwarding setup:

2300 UDP - Primary ZoneMatch Port.
6073 UDP
2302-2400 UDP - Secondary: Inbound
2302-2400 UDP - Secondary: Outbound

Used DMZ also

Both method allow users to connect to my server, but they get lag. (unplayable amount)

Yesterday, someone only 200 miles away from me was having lag on my game server. I dropped the server and joined someone server, had no lag, then found out there on a 128K ISDN connection from POLAND!! (I am in BOSTON AREA) I PINGED them directly and was getting 130-150ms !!

I have a feeling its either WINXP or Router??

Some people had lag when joining and/or when hosting a game because of windows XP's QoS packet settings. Since you didn't said which version you i don't know if you can apply hit. However, if you have windows xp "proffesional" then you can apply these settings:

- Make sure you're logged in as Administrator
- Navigate to START - Run - gpedit.msc
- Navigate to Local Computer Policy - Administrative Templates - Network - QOS Packet Scheduler
- In the right window, double-click the limit reservable bandwidth setting
- On the setting tab, hit enabled.
- Where it says "Bandwidth limit %", change to "0"
- Hit OK - close gpedit.msc

Now reboot. See if it's any better.

Additional Info:

- I tried running a Unreal Tournament Game Server, resulted in identical lag problems from users.

- (CABLE modem-> Router -> Hub -> Computer)

More than likely your problem. Hubs are the suck for routing info.

Try removing the hub and hook your pc directly to the router and see what happens.
