My friend has been having problems with reandom popus for a while so I told them how to do remopte assistance so I could help them. Now it sounded like a good idea so we did it and noticed that while I was in control her keyboard typing was messed up.

Now I tought that while I was in control, my keyboard (I have a desktop) over-rode her laptop keyboard (ie: squashed keyboard) so it made some sense asto why when she typed she got weird letters.

But then I restarted the computer for her, and forgot to disconnect (didn't think it mattereD) and when she loaded her pc back up, her keyboard STILL didn't work

in fact when she types "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" this is what she gtes:

the q45c2 br6wn f6x 140-ed 6ver the 3azy d6g

Does anyone know what we could do to fix it? Thanks

Did you try it in safe mode? DOS perhaps? She could easily have a virus or a broken keyboard.

I'll have her go to safe mode. What i tried at the moment was remove her keyboard from the device manager and restart and hope it regnozied it

but yeah i'll try safe mode next

edit:

can't be a trojan...unless the rare occurence it somehow gets in within the 10 minutes i was connected to her..my pc is clean and i have norton 2004 and avg at the same time so i don't think its a virus that fast.

Running two different AV apps at the same time is a recipe for trouble...

anything is possible when you combine a girl and a computer..maybe she had the virus to begin with?

It sounds like you have a virus of spyware that is converting regular text into hacker speech.

hrm it isn't hacker speech~ its distinctly wrong mapped keyboard. I checked her keyboard and i'm positive that it is weird mapping...here is her away message

-3ease have -at5ence w5th 0y 0essed 4- 2eyb6ard. f6r n6w 533 try t6 4se an 6n screen 2eyb6ard as 6ften as -6ss5b3e.
(translation: please have patience with my messed up keyboard. for now ill try to use an on screen keyboard as often as possible)

I tried the MS solution...but this is with EVERYTHING, not just officeXP

I also had her remove her keyboard and have it automatically reinstall...no cigar~ I also got her to download the drivers

She has a VPR MAtrix LAptop 220A (The 2.2Ghz P4-m widescreen)

If nothing works format :( Press F8 at bootup and is there a command prompt opition? Type something there and see if its still messed up. Do you have system restore? If so go back acouple days.

Do you have a Bootable Windows 98 CD? If so boot into 98's dos and try it there. Is it still messed up? If so it sounds like a Dell laptop that the dood installed this CD from Cambodia on that was full of Virus's and one wrote to the bios and the keyboard was all messed up. His did it in DOS so it was not a windows problem.

Number Lock is on. Have her turn it off ( usually Shift+Num Lk or some other key combo). If it returns after boot, have her check if there is a BIOS option that is enabling it at boot.

The last reply is correct. If you look at how the keys are mapped on a laptop keyboard, there is usually a function key to toggle certain keys, usually along the right side of the keyboard for those to become numbers. look through the manual to find which function key, or you can look at the pictures on the keys, and you may be able to figure it out. the actual function key will probably be in the upper right part of the keyboard.

yes I think he is right! I just checked my Laptop keyboard and the keys match if the Keypad shift key were depessed. That is to make it have a Embeded Numbered Keypad. Look for a key called Fn or Function. On my Thinkpad though it's the SHIFT Numlock key and not the Fn key. If I press it watch, Th5s 5s w5th that 2ey *ressed. n6t5ce s60eth5ng fa053ar+ 14st 352e her 2eyb6ard.

Same keys. Look for Numlock. Usually you have to press the Shift and Numlock together.
