My friend asked me to post this:

Well, I've decided to ditch the ole ML320 and get something new, and less soccermom-ish. I'm looking for something sporty and quick in the mid 20's range, that is affordable Insurance-wise for someone under 18. I'm paying for part of it myself, so I dont want to make a mistake in buying. New or used is fine, as long as it fits in my price range. Some things I've been thinking about are the Mustang, Camaro, and BMW M3, but im not too sure how an M3 would be insurance wise... I know there has to be something out there that would suit my needs but I'm out of thoughts, and suggestions?

Your friends needs to unearth his nutsack from wherever he buried it and pick out his own damn car. My time is valuable...for $64.59/hour, I will help him pick out his next vehicle. Other than that, he can kiss my @ss.

None of those are going to cheap to insure.

None of the cars you've chosen will be cheap to insure.

Wait a second? Is the person who is buying the car the person who is under 18, or will someone under 18 just be driving it occassionally? How old is the person who is buying/primarily driving it? Male or female? If it's someone under 18 buying it, I'd love to know what his after-school job is... :)

All of the cars you mentioned will have ridiculously high insurance for someone under 18.

The G35 coupe is a sweeter ride than the Z.

Hehe, truth be told, I'd drive either of them happily!

G35 coupe . . . stripped of course.

Acura TL-S should be quite cheap these days.

Used Volvo C70: 2002 coupes and 2001 convertibles are less than 30K.

M3 is actually quite reasonable to insure if you get a convertible but only E36s will be under your price point.

Jaguar XK8 sux to insure and maintain but everybody looks good in a Jag. It will not perform like a Camaro, Mustang, or M3 but it will be cheaper to insure plus extended warranties up to 100K are available for less than $3K.

You're such a nissan whore :)

For 30 large (which is a HUGE amount of money for an 18 year old to be spending on something frivilous like a car) I'd say look at a 2001 Audi S4. Insurance won't be terrible, it's "only" got a 2.7L V6 under there....and two turbos :)

EDIT: NM, I re-read it.

Anyways, I reccomend a Maxima. Yeah, sports cars are always nice, but there's more for gas, insurance, etc.
Maxima is a solid car, good reputation, a FUN car to drive. (I reccomend an SE.) Do NOT get a G-35. I hate those things. Two of my friends have them. One coupe, one four door, and I hate them both. I don't see what's soo special about those.

My .02 cents.

have you ever driven a sports car? dunno about you but i like it when im forced into my seat from the enormous torque a sports car puts out. personally, for 30k, get a used acura nsx (1991 - 1994). nsxprime.com for some classifieds. or if you hate imports get a used corvette, they are always cheap, but wont last you very long.
