Help. My friend just build a pc and it freezes at BIOS

Well, he's on the phone and we're trying to figure out the problem.

He said that it just freezes right after it checks memory and drives. It also freezes when you go into BIOS.
The cpu and memory check goes fine. The funny thing is that it doens't even recognize his cdrom. so i told him to take it out and the problem continues

This is what i know he has:
Asus A7M266 motherboard
Atlon 1.4ghz TBird
Maxtor 40gb hard drive
Nvidia Geforce 2 400( I'm not sure which brand)
No sound card, he's using integrated sound

For starters, clear the CMOS using the jumpers.

thanks for the help.

he fixed it himself. all he had to do was just take out the cpu from the motherboard and replace it and it works fine now.
