I'm handsome; I'm rich; I'm a chef and a lover. But, I am not the brightest bulb in the computer closet. Can anyone assist me?
My site is hosted at DixieSys. A few days ago I was moved from one server to another. I was having some email issues and we figured the simplest and quickest way to resolve it would be to move my site. It seemed to be a fix.
However, I now am unable to access my forums. When I do, I receive a MySQL error. It seems to all that the problem is password related. Try as I might I have not been able to plug in the correct password to give me access to the board. Been down now the better part of two days. This is a business related site and it looks bad and is costing me moolah.
Here is a copy of the latest reply from Dixie Support, (and they've been very good about this, I must say):

"You need to log into your Ensim CP, click on the "Services" link, then click on the edit pencil to the right of "MySQL/phpMyAdmin" then click on "Change Password" and set the password for the database. If you set it to the same as was before, and the forums are looking for, your board should be accessible again. If all else fails, you may have to do a edit to the config file to update the database name naked-investor_com (or the name of the actual database your forum files are in) and the password."

As I said, I've tried numerous passwords I thought might work, but to no avail. So, what config file are they talking about, and where do I find it??
Many thanks for any help in this matter.

oonly a couple things need to happen to access a database:

a user has to be created with a specific password
the user has to be given at least SELECT access to the database

this is the simplest method of adding a user for a specific database

that said, if you are sure you're setting the password correctly (and supplying it correctly) then it is possible that the user was not given access to the database. there is one caveat that seems to trick people up (even myself having worked with MySQL databases for a couple years now)... you must RELOAD mysql for t to accept the new user & user permissions

try this:
reset your password to your old password, and ensure that the password for the databases is the same

if it still does not work, contact tech support tell them what you did and ask them to "check if the user was created on the system and given access to the appropriate database. if so, was mysql reloaded so that the new user is active"

if you say up there what is in quotes, at least they'll take you seriously like you know what you're talking about. whenever i have problems on my host (very, very far and few between) i always diagnose the problem to the fullest that i can and then write tech support letting them know what i found and what i think might be the problem. as a server admin, "i got an error" is useless. "i got such and such an error on such a page when doing this thing" is much more helpful. hope this helps

eklass, if it helps, here is the error message received by anyone trying to access the site:

"Warning: Access denied for user: 'carboadmin@localhost' (Using password: YES) in /home/virtual/site180/fst/var/www/html/forums/sources/Drivers/mySQL.php on line 64

Warning: MySQL Connection Failed: Access denied for user: 'carboadmin@localhost' (Using password: YES) in /home/virtual/site180/fst/var/www/html/forums/sources/Drivers/mySQL.php on line 64

Warning: mysql_select_db(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/virtual/site180/fst/var/www/html/forums/sources/Drivers/mySQL.php on line 67
ERROR: Cannot find database carboforum
Warning: mysql_query(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/virtual/site180/fst/var/www/html/forums/sources/Drivers/mySQL.php on line 100

There appears to be an error with the The Naked Investor database.
You can try to refresh the page by clicking here, if this does not fix the error, you can contact the board administrator by clicking here

Error Returned

mySQL query error: SELECT id, member_id, running_time, location FROM ibf_sessions WHERE id='93e65c63df6a38752ef3ccca1dd20af1' and ip_address='66.176.155.178'

mySQL error: Access denied for user: 'carboadmin@localhost' (Using password: YES)
mySQL error code: 1045
Date: Saturday 26th of April 2003 08:59:21 PM"

This is my site, and I have always been the only admin of the site. There has not been another user setup previously.
I guess I'm confused as to how the password was ever changed in the first place. I never go into the Ensim Control Panel, because I wouldn't know what to do there anyway.
I thought I knew the password. I have tried every conceivable word it could be, but none works.
As for reloading MySQL, I'm lost when you start talking about that high tech stuff......sorry.
I will contact support, again, (sigh), and quote you. In the meantime, is my board hosed or can it be salvaged? Is Dixie's suggestion about editing the config file valid? How might that be done?

reset the password in your CP to whatever the password is set in your config file. if you still get the same errors, then i would just wait for tech support

it is possible that they moved over your databae(s) and never added your user account for the sql server. there's a few different ways that ensim coule have been programmed to update your password, and all they have to do is not report errors and you don't know that nothing is actually getting done.

my suggestion: learn to live without a graphical CP

let us know what tech support says

HAHA! They realized that the database files were never moved in the first place. They were still sitting on the old server. Once they were moved over, problem solved.
