Help! My Direct3d games are running in 256 color!

Ack! Apparently I deleted some important files in the main Windows directory that my computer didn't like even though they were 0K. Anyway, now when I run games that need Direct3d, the games play in 256 colors and the colors don't even really match what colors are supposed to be used. I have tried everything I can think of including reinstalling multiple video driver versions, directx, service pack. How can I get my Direct3d back the way it was?!? My opengl games seem to be running fine though (i.e Quakeiii)

You could try one of the Manual Direct X uninstallers (sorry i havent got a link but a direct X search might find one), if this doesnt work have you tried Direct X 8?

I launched a dxsetup from an earlier copy of directx (I think directx 7) and it said in the box that Direct3d was not installed even though I seemingly have all the d3d drivers in my windows/system32 directory.
