I just bought a hub to share my cable connection and they can both access the net but they can't see each other. They have the same subnet mask, both on the same workgroup, and they are both WinXP Pro. When I install netbeui they see each other just fine but as soon as I uninstall it they each dissappear from the others workgroup computers in my network places. The built in firewalls are both turned off and I can ping both ways using the ip addresses but not the computer names. My LAN properties are configured as follows:

Client For Microsoft Networks (checked)
File and Print Sharing (checked)
TCP/IP (checked and everything in the TCP/IP properties is set up to used DHCP)

Can someone help me out?

I'm not really a newbie at this. I've been networking a while but this one has me baffled. I only came here because I exhausted my store of knowledge and though someone could add some insight. All of the simple things you can think of that could be wrong I probably have thought of it already. I've ready til I'm blue in the face. Thanks for trying to help though.

JackMDS knows his stuff. If I were you I would double check my settings, since usually its something you have looked at already. I know some stuff about networking (not Cisco yet, but working on it), but I start from the ground up. Its simply the way you troubleshoot. Matrix style. On the adapter properties, make sure you have USE TCP/IP FOR NETBIOS checked. I don't think thats the exact wording, but I am not in front of my 2k box at the moment.

Yes I can use netbeui for the computers to see each other but I was trying to avoid that.
