Hey guys,

I decided yesterday night that I try to play with my computer a bit and so I added some hardware (a tape drive and a extra hard drive). In order for me to had the tape drive, I need to remove the front panel of my Inwin A500 case.

So I did and successfully installed the tape drive as well as the hard drive. Afterwards, I place the front panel back in its place and I try turning the computer. To my surprise (or shock rather), it didn't turn on. I try troubleshooting the problem with no success until I removed the front panel again and checked the wires and found out that the one of the two wires connecting the power button was disconnected or rather broken off.

Is that the reason why my computer is not turning on ? I've tried reconnecting it but still I can't turn it on. If anyone owns this case, or have seen problems like this .. Please Help .

Thanks for your input.

hmm, i would go and buy a cheap switch, any switch that has an on and an off. turn off your system and unplug it. strip the two power wires and attach the switch you bought. plug back in your system and try turning it on with your new switch. lol, i think it would be funny to have a light switch sticking out of the front of your case as a replacement. if you really care how it looks you could go and see if you could re-attach the wire to it's switch but you'll probably need a soldering iron

Solder it back on if u can. The switch is what is keeping you from booting up.

Yea, I'm planning to solder the wire back on to the back of the power button tonight, but the problem is that now, there are six "pins" sticking out on the back of the power button and I don't know which of the five I have to connect it to (the sixth one is connected to the white wire that is still attached)

Does anyone have an Inwin A500 case and wouldn't mind to look behind their front panel to find out which of the six pins the wire (black one) connects to ?? I need to know so that I can solder it back to the right one. I know that the white wire connects to the 2nd row left-most pin.

Thanks for your input guys.

If you want a quick fix, place a jumper on the power switch pins, that will at least start it up to see if it works at all. although if you leave the jumper on the system it will turn off after 10 sec. since its equivalent to holding the power button in.

Hey xizor,

I didn't know that would seriously work. Let me try it out tonight. Thanks for your input.

BTW the solering didn't work ! :( Right about now, I'm fearful that it maybe more than just a broken wire on the power button.

Hmm.. I think I might have to consider buying an ATX switch, but boy is it gonna look ugly on my A500.

I just got an email from Inwin that they can send me a front panel and they just need my address. Hopefully, I do get a front panel from them, all other attempts have failed :(

I still think it would look great with a light switch on the front of the case.... hehe. I actually don't know if the atx switch is different from a normal switch but it's worth a shot.

Just a quick question, was the ATX switch mounted on the bezel, so each time it was removed, the wiring to it was stressed? As opposed to switch mounting on the metal chassis, and poking thru the bezel? If so, this would be good to know when case reviews/recommendations are made.

The switch is most likely a normally open (NO) momentary contact switch. If you use a light switch it would be the equivilent of shorting the switch and it wold most like turn off after 10 secs as mentioned earlier.

Just use a screwdriver to short the pins on the mobo that the wires connected to. If still no power, I had a weird psu once that sometimes wouldn't work right and acted how you described, try removing the atx power connector from where it snaps onto the mobo and push it back on fast, that always did the trick for me.

so if you had a light switch and flicked it on then off would that work? If it needs just that momentary hit of power to turn on it should...

I think the problem maybe with the power supply or maybe one of the hardware in my computer, but I am not exactly sure anymore and I don't have time the to test every single thing out. :(

I probably might need to end up getting a new case. I don't think I would like seeing a switch just hanging out of the case like that. :)
