it was working fine before. i switched cases, and now it won't even post. i switched graphics cards and ram chips but no luck. could it be the cpu or mobo, and if so what happened? how do i check? nothing else is plugged in yet. just the cpu, ram, and video card.

Might want to plug in the PS then 😛

Maybe a case standoff in a bad place?
Did you take your heatsink and CPU out? (might be your L1 bridges disconnected)
Is the Powersuply ok?

🙂 i wish it were the power supply...

could it be due to a case standoff? i didn't even think of checking that...
no, i didn't take the heatsink/cpu off. the cpu is unlocked 🙂

how do i check to see if it's a power supply problem? the mobo, fans, hard drive and everything power up, it just won't post. 🙁

Tuffguy,

A case standoff, shorting a mobo trace to ground, is the reason for your type of problem 9 times out of ten. Remove mobo and look on the bottom side for tell tale scratches. Put screws in the mobo holes that have soldered rings around them. Remove or insulate any extra standoffs.

no beeps. that would help some. i just took out all the extra standoffs (about 5) and i'm putting it together again. i hope it's not the standoffs. man i'd feel stupid... actually i hope it's the standoffs, cuz that would be an easy fix. update in 5 minutes...

Don't feel so bad. I did the same thing, except I shorted out my secondary IDE controller. It took me months to figure out what it was, and I thought I had a bad motherboard all along.

i still feel like a retard. i thought i was making it more "stable" since i always switch cpus and ram. guess not...
