So I come home and start the computer. Does not turn on. All the fans and all the drives spin up. Even the speakers make that boom sound when they get power. However the darn thing just sits there, no sound, no post sound even.

So I bought a new powersuply. Same problem.
old powersuply: Antec 420W
new powersuply: Antec 420W

So I buy a new mobo. Same problem!
old mobo: Asus P4B-533-V
new mobo: Asus P4G800-V

I've unhooked everything and it still doesn't work! Ive unhooked all the drives and all the periphials. I know the monitor works, I can plug it into a laptop and it is fine.

The only thing left original is the P4 1.6A and the 512mb PC2700 ram. But those should not matter untill after the darn thing posts, right?

AHHHHH so agrivating!!!

Depending on the board, you'll either hear beeps that indicate a bad CPU, or it won't do anything at all. I've never had a board boot up with a dead CPU though.

As for grouding, aslong as you are using standoffs and the motherboard is not directly touching the case in any way, you're fine.

Well neither the Asus P4B533-V or the Asus P4G800-V have made post sounds. So do asus' not make bad cpu post sounds?

What kinda heatsink/fan? I'm having this problem. Mechbgon(sp?) suggested it was 'cuz my fan is too slow, and the mobo shuts itself down before even posting so I don't fry the cpu. Could try plugging in a faster fan header (I didn't do this because I'm too n00b). I'm just gonna go buy a faster fan/hs. I think 5500 is a safe speed. Mine is less than half that.

Oh, or maybe the hs isn't oriented properly.

Any thunderstorms in your area, EvanAdams? Yeah, a dead CPU or dead RAM would keep the system from POSTing. Ditto for a bad video card... you using the onboard video or add-in?
