Hey guys I have a MSI KT3 Ultra with an Athlon XP 1600 and I was running fine for like 2 weeks. All of a sudden today my comp wouldn't boot up. I hear my harddrives spin up and cdrom spin up, and even the cpu fan spin up, but its black on my monitor. I tried different video cards and monitors so i don't think they are the problem. I tried switching memory and that didn'w work either. Can someone tell me whats wrong with my computer. If my cpu is overheating can my motherboard possible fail on me? I have decent cooling so i don't think i am having any overheating problems though......Please Help.

Try resetting the processor. Take it out and put it back in. If you have another processor that will fit, try that also. I am thinking the processor might be bad, or a bit flakey somewhere. Hope I am wrong and that problem is much simpler.

I am having the same problem. There are a few Boot Up topics stating the same problem, but unfortunately no real answers. I also have swapped out my Power Supply, video card, ram, CPU ( ran fine with my amd 750 T bird, but not long enough to be sure) and still no luck. I tried running my CPU at 100 fbs way underclocking it, still the same prob. Its possible that my mobo could be shorted ( I noticed I did not have the plastic spacers between the mobo and case). I've came down to it either being a bad CPU, mobo, or a short somewhere.

My system:
XP 2200+ (Volcano 7+)
Soyo Dragon Ultra
512 ddr pc2700 (1 samsung, 1 crucial)
7200rpm hdd
Aopen Geforce 4 ti4200 128 ddr
Works 430w PS

My daughters PC has the some problem from time to time. I just take out the CPU and stick it back in and it works after that. She kicks it playing Clifford and Jump Start games, and somehow gets the flimsy slot 1 celeron loose.
