help! my comp wont boot when a CD drive is in!!

ok, so it boots fine without either my dvd drive or my 52x burner hooked up. but whenever i do, BAM, it dosent want to boot. it just sits there trying to find IDE drives what should i do

Check to make sure you have the jumpers on the drives set correctly. If that doesn't work, try clearing the CMOS and see if they re-detect. If that doesn't work, try going into the BIOS and re-detecting them there (make sure the IDE channel is set to auto detect).

sry, but whats a booting sequence??? an how do i clear the CMOS?

i would check the jumpers (as zodder) suggested. to clear the cmos... there should be a jumper on the mobo which u can short. check your mobo manual for more details on that. or... just go into the bios and restore the factory defaults. the boot sequence can also be editted in the bios. i think it is usually under advanced setup or something... again... check the manual for more details.

All this is good advice, but also make sure your CD Drives are being recognized by your bios correctly. In the main bios settings screen it should list all of your drives. Do your Hard Drives and CD Drives show up correctly (their names) in the IDE Primary/Secondary, Master/Slave settings?
