Cingular is a$$ when it comes to this kind of stuff, take it from me, I know first hand, I go through about 4 cell phones a year. I was never aware of their no-fault insurance policy, it's like $4 a month and I think up to a $35 Deductible. after I broke my first Ericsson, i got the insurance. They wanted $480 for a replacement, so I bought the bullet and got a new Nokia 5120 for $280. After that one broke, I got an unlocked Nokia 5160 from a buddy (he bought it in St. Thomas when he lived there), it worked for about a day, then wouldn't. Cingular gave me the crap about how non-branded (or unlocked) phones have to be taken to a tech and programmed to not get kicked off their towers. I fought, and fought, and fought for a week, and they finally got tired of me calling and flipping out on them.
The tech I brought it to said that they don't sell Unlocked phones in the US, and it was that they just get real touchy about people not buying a phone from Cingular directly. I don't know what part of the story was bullsh!t or not, I just wanted my phone back on. The original Cingular store I went to here is CRAP, they used to flat out LIE about, rate plans and fees, and never informed me about Insurance available on the phones. Luckily we got back at them, and got them in a LOT of trouble! HEHEHE!
If you've got a good tech like the other 2 stores here have, you can probally get a rebuilt phone for nothing, or next to nothing. My Current phone is an Ericsson t60d that was a rebuilt, the tech sold it to me for $25, and even transferred the phonebook from my broken t60d to this one. I bypassed my insurance, because it was $10 cheaper than the $35 deductable, and felt better kicking a $10 tip to the dude, than the whole $35 Cingular.
Watch out for Cingular, they may be cheap, but you get what you pay for!
