Help!!! My cable modem download speed went from 3Mbps to about 150K!

Hello all,

Our cable modem speed has went to a crawl. We use to be getting download speeds close to 3Mbps. Now, we are lucky to get 150K. I used the download tester on cnet to come up with these numbers.

Funny thing is, the problem started occurring right after the cable guy hooked up High Definition TV in our home.

So, I went out to the cable box outside (where the cable is coming into the house) and here is how he has it hooked up.

-The MAIN cable line (coming from the road) is going into a 3 way 1Ghz High Performance Splitter.

-On one of the outputs on the three way splitter is going to the cable line which runs directly into our cable modem - the output for this is labled 8db.

-On the second output on the three way splitter is going to our High Def. TV. It is labeled 4db.

-On the third output on the three way splitter is going into another two way splitter. This two way splitter says Antonix 2 way splitter. This output is labled 8db.

-On one of the outputs on the 2 way splitter is going to a non high def tv.

-On the other output on the 2 way splitter is going to another non high dev tv.

OK, so that is how he has it hooked up. Is this new configuration slowing me down?
I JUST NOTICED THE PROBLEM OCCURRING AS SOON AS THE CABLE GUY LEFT - SO I TEND TO THINK ITS THE WAY HE HAS IT HOOKED UP OUT AT THE BOX.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks all!!

Oh, one more thing... I made sure all of the coaxial cable connections were tight and they are. Thanks!!

He may have used the wrong type of splitter. Have him return and fix it. Sounds like he took care of your HDTV and screwed your internet. It takes a special splitter to have both.
