I just purchased the k7t-turbo and a t-bird 1200. When I assembled the system I read in the manual about the clear c-mos jumper which appeared to be in the clear c-mos position right out of the box. I moved the jumper to save c-mos before even putting the board in my case. when I tried to power up, I got nothing! After reading some other threads on this board, I switched the jumper back to its original position. Now it still wont power up, but when I release the power button, I get a split second of power. The questions here are, am I doing something wrong? Did I fry my board? Is the board just plain defective? Also, I did try powering up with the board removed from the case and I removed everything 1 by 1 until only the board and proc were left and still nothing.

I would greatly appreciate any insight.

  1. The board ships with the CMOS jumper in the NORMAL position.
  2. A motherboard will not power up for the following reasons:
    1. The boards grounded out. Solution: Remove board from case and test outside of the case.
    2. The power supply is defective or completely inadequate. Solution: Test the power supply. If it works, make sure you have at least 20 AMPS on the combined 3.3 and 5V leads (should be on label).
    3. The FRONT POWER SWITCH is hooked up to the wrong place on the panel connectors.
  3. The MSI will fire up even if there is no fan on the CPU and then immediately shut down if temperatures reach a critical level. After the fan is properly installed, this is generally followed by FOUR RED LEDS indicating that the CPU is dead.

Thanks for the input Johnny, The first thing I tried was the power supply, no luck. If the shipping position of that jumper is the save mode, then the manual is misprinted. Would putting in the clear mode and trying to power on damage anything? If not, I must assume this board to be defective (by the way, I also tried a different power switch).

I'm in the same damn mess you are. I tested everything and it all showed up fine. I *can* get my motherboard to turn on, but I can't do so by using the power switch on the correct jumpers. I have to turn it on by shorting one of the jumper pins from the speaker connection and one of the jumper pins from the power on connection. I pulled my board out of the case, tested the power supply and everything before I did all that, and it was pretty amazing when I was able to turn it on that way. The only problem is that I can't turn it off no matter what I do so that leads me to assume (key word there) that my board is defective. I hope that has helped you, and I can imagine your frustration. :p Being a college student that has to scrape every penny that just got his first more than decent 'puter (upgrading from a Cyrix 233 :p) I was really mad and let down when it didn't work. At any rate, there ya go..

The board with the clear CMOS jumper in clear mode would do nothing. Not only would it not hurt the board, but it wont even power up in the first place.
