HELP!! MSI K7T Pro2A and Netgear nic

I just put together a Ghz TB system on a K7TPro2A running Win98SE and am trying to connect it to my cable modem using a Netgear nic. First I tried an FA310TX, but it kept giving me errors when I started windows stating that "your FA310TX is not functioning correctly". Then I tried using an FA311 I had around. It seemed to install fine, but I couldn't connect to my Cox@Home correctly. I spent an hour with a tech from cox to no avail. I tried using the 311 in my old pc (the one I'm using now), and I could connect to the internet fine - so I know it's not the nic. I tried installing the VIA4in1, but that didn't help either. Can somebody help me out so I don't feel like an idiot for spending $1500 putting together the perfect system only to have it fart in my face? I called Netgear only to be put on hold for 30+ mins... same goes for VIA. Anandtech is my last hope. I love this forum already, but I'd be grateful to no end if someone could fix this for me. I've already spend at least 10 hours dicking around trying to solve it. Thanks for taking the time to read this (and hopefully help me out).

I have 3 BX6r2, 3 BH6 and 2 ZM6 along with several socket 7
boards, 8 fa310 nic's. Some go, some don't.
The fix is always the cheapo SMC EZ10/100 card for about $8.00.
For me they ALWAYS work. Try a diff. brand I hate to say.

First I tried the last pci slot(next the the cnr), but I've also tried the 3rd one down from the agp slot... still nogo. The only other pci slot being taken up is the 4th down from the agp. I installed a SBLive! there.

Try popping the NIC in the slot next to the AGP slot - my FA312 gets on fine sharing with the AGP.
Also try popping your SBLive in PCI slot 3.
I dont know if the your mobo has an onboard ATA controller like my KT7 raid, but it could be that 2 of your PCI slots share IRQ's with the USB controller and the ATA controller? Some devices are a no go when it comes to sharing with these onboard devices.

Have a look in your manual for IRQ/PCI table or INT table.

Hope this helps,

rockhard =)

I uninstalled all cards except my elsa gladiac 2 and reinstalled the 4in1 drivers. Then I tried installing into the slot next to the agp, but that would've completely covered the video card's cooling fan. So I installed into the one just below that and it works perfectly!!! I just hope that my soundcard plays nice once I install it. Btw, what's better, a Netgear FA311(currently installed), or a FA310TX? They seem to have the same features, but I wanted to know if one had lower cpu utilization. Thanks for the help guys.

Glad to hear u got it working 🙂
Your sound card should be a breeze as long as its not put in a slot that shares with your USB or onboard ATA if present?
Makes me wonder how Creative Labs can claim that their card is PCI compliant? Not liking sharing IRQ makes it NOT totally PCI compliant in my book 😉
If you can do without it - dont install the Liveware at all! Seems to be a bit too buggy for my liking and many others on this forum 🙁
As long as u get the latest drivers only from CL you should have no probs 🙂

Your FA311 looks like its the better option as it supports both 5 & 3.3v which will future proof it and also has socket for a boot ROM if you ever fancy using your puter as a network terminal.
