Help!!! Motherboard Smoking

Help, I installed my new CUBX into a new Antec case and when I powered up one of the chips on the CUBX started glowing and smoking. The power on LED indicator on the motherboard was lit up okay. Is this something that happens with a defective motherboard or does it seem like I did something wrong? I'd like to figure this out before I try a new motherboard. Is there anyway to test the power supply? Thanks in advance!

I know that smell....I just had a Maxtor go up in flames not a fun experience in the least 🙁 RMA that board ASAP !!

Not good, not good, not good!

Yes, you can check your power supply voltages in one of your BIOS pages.

It would help to identify the specific chip that glowed and smoked. That would help isolate the fault. Sounds like it could be a short somewhere. Make sure all your stand offs and hold downs are insulated with fiber washers.

Could also be a bad case. I once saw a whole shipment (12 cases) that all had the powersupplies incorrectly wired. The tech I know who was working on them at the time fired 3 motherboards before figuring it out. Even got a cut on the forehead when a capacitor blew.
