Help Migrating XP to new system!

I just bought a new AMD X2-4800+ chip, Asus A8N-SLI board and new 7800GTX video card. I am switching from Intel P4 3.0, Asus P4C800 Deluxe and standard nvidia card. Problem I am having is last night I changed my system to new parts. I tried to boot Windows and blue screen. System reboots. I was able to get into Safe mode and install new AMD/Nforce board drivers hoping that would fix the blue screens but that did not work. I restored a backup image and tried this time to run a Windows Repair Install and same thing happens. After sometime I had to go back to my Intel system and restore my backup image. My goal is to move Windows, all programs and settings on the hard disk over to my new AMD system without having to re-install. Anyone have suggestions??
 
I STRONGLY recommend reinstalling windows if you are converting from intel to an AMD. Anything else is bound to be asking for trouble with system instability and other headaches.

Dood, give it up man. Yes, theoretically, it can be done with hours and hours of headache...I've done it. Everytime I did, I realized I could have started clean and saved a lot of trouble. Now that I have a bomb load of experience, I realized a change of that magnitude is NOT WORTH THE TROUBLE. Start from scratch and you'll be done in a few hours and your PC will be stable. Go down your path, get it running and you will be cussing for the next few months as the bugs popup.

Yea, you can't just change parts from one architecture to another (Intel to AMD) without having BSOD's.
 
One word of advise. If you move your My Documents folder, even to another drive, windows will find it and erase it! Rename it to anything, e.g. My documents1, and you will be ok. I did it several times and then once I forgot to and found all my info gone.
 
installing a new OS is so easy that I do it on customers computers if they are even moderately infected with spyware/malware. Don't even try to keep the same OS with the new components. Just bite the bullet and do the right thing.
 
Bite the bullet and reinstall ... I know what a headache it can be though with all the installed programs that have to loaded again, entering those stupid serial numbers argpght !!!!
Backup your bookmarks, and EMAIL and special documents and spreadsheets you want to keep. Move your music and videos off your C drive and go for the reinstall.
I don't know if you tried a 'repair' yet, instead of just installing new drivers .. that is an option to try. It is good to get rid of all the old junk though and do a fresh format and install.
