Help, messed up boot virus

Each time I restart my computer (windows 2000 sp4) the computer restarts. I can't even get it to run on samemode. The windows 2000 loading screen shows up, and right when it is about to finish it restarts.

I have several questions:
1. How the heck did this happen, I'm an advanced PC user whose not stupid enough to dl spyware, how could a virus infiltrate my boot sector?
2. Can I use the OS install disc to fix it?
3. Is there a simpler fix?

Thanks for your help

hehe, I find it amusing when people say these type of things.

Insert your OS disk and try the repair utility.

You have no reason as far as I can see to think it's a virus. Either try a repair install or spam f8 during boot, and then choose boot with logging from the menu and see if you can find out what is causing the error. Another option is just to yank all non-essential hardware (including all but one stick of ram) and then see if it will start. If you have more than one stick of ram try switching them.
