I have a brand new Dell with XP Pro. When I start up the machine, it pops up an explorer window of C:\Windows\System32. I can close it but it will come up again the next time I boot up. What's up with that? My bet is that I'd have to edit some registry somewhere. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Here's a screenshot

Browse to \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run in regedit, and look for any values that may be blank or referencing an invalid file name. These are the likely culprits of the system32 pop-up.

I got the answer from people in another forum. Apparently I have a Dell machine with an Audigy2 card. The Dell load that contains the image for that soundcard has a malformed startup command.

To fix it, I modified the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Run/SB Audigy2/ /L:ENG

by removing the space in front of the "/L:ENG" and that solved the problem.
