He's been wanting a soccer game for the 360 and pointed out PES 2008 in the store today. So I picked that up. I've never heard of this game and am only barely familiar with the FIFA series soccer games (all I know is that FIFA's been around forever).

So, my question, which is better? FIFA 08 or this PES 2008 I picked up.

I ask here as opposed to sifting through reviews online because I'm off to bed and if this game sucks (PES 2008) I don't want him to open it in the morning, I'd rather him exchange it for a soccer game he'll enjoy.

That and I trust the opinion of those here who've actually played each game vs. some possibly biased reviewer.

Thanks in advance guys!

FIFA 08 plays a great game of soccer, but quickly ramps up the difficulty. FIFA 07 is much more inviting to new players and still plays a fun game. Since it can be had for cheap, it'd be a safe bet, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend FIFA 08 to anybody, really. My friend who has played previous FIFA versions hopped right into 08, picked it up quick and had a blast. It really is a great game. I haven't personally played PES 2008, but I had the 2005 or 2006 version and enjoyed it enough. There was a fair bit to it (practice modes, player training, etc), but it was definitely more complicated than the FIFA series (menus, tactics setup, etc). Gameplay was intuitive, but it is in FIFA 08 as well. Advanced controls in PES, at least in the 2007 demo, were intense and would seem to take a lot of study to learn all the options. The FIFA 08 presentation is superb with numerous real teams and players, stadiums, chants, lively crowds, great announcers and numerous ways to play.

Hopefully someone with PES 2008 experience can chime in here.

I've got FIFA 2008 for my 360 and love it; the last FIFA game I played was 2001 for the PC. I don't know too much about PES (Winning Eleven overseas, I think).

I think were gonna roll with FIFA (I found a cheaper used version of FIFA, it's hard to justify $50 for a new soccer game).

Thanks to all who replied. I appreciate your input.
