I am building a new i7 build and was looking for some PSU suggestions. I really like the Corsair HX-1000 but I am unsure whether it will power my system. Thanks!

System Specs:

CM HAF 932
i7 920(will OC to around 4.2 hopefully)
3x EVGA GTX FTW 285 1G
EVGA x58 Classified
6GB Mushkin DDR3 1600
3x Koolance 980BK
8x 120mm 3000 rpm Scythe Ultra Kaze
4x WD Caviar Green 500GB
OCZ Agility Series 120GB SSD

According to the PSU calculator thingy I need 895W NOT including my 3rd GTX 285. I figured out from the calc that I need another 143W which would bring me to 1038. Will the Corsair be enough for this setup???

PSU calc settings
85% CPU utilization
90% system load
25% capacitor Aging(recommended by another forum member)

HX1000 would be abotu perfect. Other alts are Enermax Revolution 1050, Seasonic also has a nice 1000w I believe

Since you have an EVGA Classified, you can't use the Enermax Revolutions' which are the best psu's made.

Turns out I was thinking silverstone hoofan, not seasonic

Ah hell WfN, I hadn't heard about that. Kibosh on the enermax then I guess

And OP, that setup will pull probably 750-800w or so since you have so many drives/fans. Speaking of, why the heck would you use 4 500gb drives? You got the green ones so I don't think you're worried about a raid array, why wouldn't you just get 2x 1TB Black drives? You obviously have the budget for it. Also, it would *appear* that you're using the three koolances to WC the 285's. Why not just get a true loop instead? One last thing, you have 8 3000RPM 38mm think 120mm fans right there. Do you have any clue how loud this will be? It's going to be ridiculous

Hello Matt64, and welcome to Anandtech Forums.

It will pull more. Oh, it might not measure more on slow meters such as a Kill-A-Watt, but once you load the system (say, running Prime and Furmark) I can pretty much guarantee that the PSU OCP will shut it down due to transient spikes in power draw.

Also, few-to-no 800W PSU will have enough connectors for all the cards.

The HX-1000 might work... though all those fans, pumps and overclocked CPU will add to the load.

At that high end, I'd rather go with a 1200W for a bit of overhead. My top choices would probably be:

BFG EX-1200 (made by Andyson, PCIe output problems have been fixed for production)
Silverstone ST1200 (made by Enhance)
Seventeam ST-1200 (heh almost same model name, made by.... Seventeam)

I'm guessing "green" drives in RAID 0 for performance and low power draw? Yeah, I'd personally just get a single 2TB Black, or two 1TB Black in RAID 0. Data storage does not need super fast speeds, unless the system also acts as a file server for more than just a couple systems. Also, two Green drives probably takes more power than one Black drive, and will have slower access times.

That's a good question. You should be able to set up a nice custom loop, or a dual loop (separate one for CPU/chipset).

The Seventeam ST-1200 is sold by Silverstone as the Olympia and Decathalon 1200W

BFG also has the LS1200 available now...It is the same as the Coolermaster Real Power Pro 1250W...made by Enhance
Don't forget the Silverstone Zeus 1200W either...it may be the best 1200W PSU.
