I have an old ISA PnP ESS1869 chip based soundcard (not sure who made it).
I need 4 drivers for this device.
One for the PnP 1869 audio drive
One for the 1869 control ..something..
One for the joystick
and one for the ESDI HDD controller! which is embedded onto the card.

My win98 is a clean install so the driver was automtically installed when windows was installed. And it was working fine until...
I decided to update the driver! (The driver was from ess website..and cnet and zdnet.. I tried them all..)
Anyways, first I executed the setup file, and when it started, it said something like... 1879 setup..so I thought..wait a minute.. why isn't that 1869?
Maybe it's the same thing.. so I went on..the setup copies file and asks for reboot which I did.
After the reboot, windows askes that it found a new device.. and its..es1869!
So the setup basically deleted the device from the windows.. hm.. :(
The problem is.. window can't find the proper driver for it. How the hack did it install the driver at the first place??
I tried just updating the driver from the device manager.. and no avail. The supposedly 1869 driver file contains 1879 card drivers which is not compatible.. The only way I can get my sound back is a clean install of windows..

Is there another wy?? :(

I recently did a reinstall for a friend of mine with an old computer using that soundcard. I found the drivers somewhere and I actually saved the zip file. It's about 1.2 megs. I can email it if you want.
