Hello all you anandtechers, i hope your ready for some shopping!!!!! I just got word that i can build a Custom computer with a price limit of up to 3500 dollars. The problem is deciding what parts to get with this. This is where you come in:Help me find the best parts for this budget. If you dont wanna help find parts, find the best website for me to get a custom system from.

Details: 1. I would like to have a dual core processor.(probably x2 4800)
2. Want the best graphics card and Mother board (probably sli)
3. Gaming monitor.
4. at least 100 GB Hard Drive and fast speed
5. At least 1GB RAM
6. Kick ass looking case
7. Powerpul Power Supply
8. Really good cooling system
9. Everything should be easily overclockable(or already fast)
10. Dual format dvd drive
11. Decent soundcard ad speakers
you can add anything else that you like but try to keep the price within the 3000-4000 range
I will allow the best computer designer to put whatever they want in my sig.

Let the building begin!!!!!

What do you plan to use the computer for?

You don't really need an X2 unless your doing professional level Photoshop, 3D Studio Max or Alias in general.

At least that's what I was told because I too was thinking the same processor a month ago or so.

I didn't go full bore SLI but I invested in the motherboard and PSU for an extra $150+, don't think I'll ever really need it as my single ATI X800XL works fine.

It all depends what your going to do with it.

I will use it for pretty much everything Schoolwork, Gaming, Dling Songs and Porn(yes i said it), what everyone does. Im just worried that i will buy the best stuff now and new stuff will come out right when i get it.....I would also like to try my hand at some overclocking as well

buying high end stuff now will become mid-range in a matter of months. might as well only spend 1500 and upgrade along the way.

epox 9npa+
3800+
7800gt bfg/evga
dell 2005fpw
250gig seagate 7200.8
2gig ocz
lian li pc60
tagan 480w u22
xp-90al w/ panaflo
benq dw1640
bluegears x-mystique
klipsch promedia/creative gigaworks
xp home

i highly doubt i hit anywhere near my $1500 mark... and i already dislike you because you give a budget and make us do all the work. next time make a list yourself then we will fix it. i'm only doing this because im trying to evade homework.

X2 is nice, but you won't need it in your case and yes there will be something better out in 2007 AMD Quad Core. Then again most won't really need it. I went with the 4000+ and a single video card but I do have SLI capability if needed and I can always drop in a X2 when the price drops to $400 or so.

As far as all the other hardware you'll get lot's of recommendations.

Thanks for the advice, i had been thinking about buying medium range stuff as well but i dont know if the money for the pc will still be available in the future. Another question, whats so great about those lian li case? They look plain and dull on the outside but everyone worships them.

they are built in a way air flow would have no problems whatsoever getting from the front of the case, to the end. and sometimes simplicity rules the world in the case industry.

I was looking at one of the Lian Li cases not sure which one your looking at, but read some negatives on the V Cool series.

-Dust issues with all those holes
-Inverted motherboard mounting causes some issues with some motherboards
-Some cables might be too short to reach motherboard due to inverted design.
-Price $150, I'm sure it's worth it and of the best quality.

Again, I'm not talking from experience just what other's have noted.

pretty much. thats why i picked a raidmax 668 over every other cases. i only refered to lian li because i assume he would like it too after all the other people i recommened it to. guess it didnt work.

I suggest this

AMD64 FX 57 $1,011
DFI nF4 SLI - DR $178
2 X 7800GTX any will work ~ $500 each
OCZ Value Series 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Dual Channel Kit $211.93
P180 or CM Stacker for ~ $150
2 X 200 Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 3.5" Serial ATA150 Hard Drive $222.50
Sound card get a X-FI Fatal!ty ~ $290?
ENERMAX All in One Noisetaker Series EG701AX-VE SFMA(24P) 600W Power Supply $149.99
A Dell 2005 FPW for a monitor for 559.20 or the 2001FP for 561.75
Logitech THX Z-5300e 5.1 Speaker $138
Don't know about the burner

That's about $3900 right there. Of course this is only using NewEgg prices. You can get most of this stuff for a lot less in other places.

As long as it looks decent and has plenty of room for upgrading and expanding. Any news on processors being released in the next few months?? i might just settle for really good ram cpu and video card(s)

not really any new procs. a new platform will come out for amd sometime in 2006, i hear 2nd quarter but not sure. i think you are safe.

Lian Li's have great case desighn, good airflow, and a sleek pro desighn.

this junk you will see with lights and multi-colored cases look stupid.

lol. no.

Are you really that rich? cuz I think spending that much is kind of a waste because you can get 90%~95% the performance just buy spending $2000. Then you can save up the cash and upgrade every 6 months to keep current w/ the newest stuff instead of waiting 2-3 years before you have another $3000 to splurge.

You can justify spending 3000-4000 when you drive a porche... (that's roughly equivalent to the excesses of spending more than $3000 on a computer)

What you really need:
Expensive GPU, you can't skimp on that no matter what. (7800GTX) One should be sufficient, having two really doesn't increase performance that much, and you'll be left w/ two pieces of outdated hardware when you upgrade. The eVGA has a good lifetime warranty (covers OC damage) and a trade up program.

Mobo, good, solid nF4 Ultra or nF4 SLI mobo. They are the same except the latter gives you SLI, which is a waste of money except those who are freaking rich and can afford the premium of 2 GPUs. (anyone can, but how often can you upgrade at that spending?) The DFI Lanparty series are good overclockers and are good boards.

CPU you should just get the 3800+ X2 or the 3700+ simply because they give you the most room for overclocking. There's no point in getting a FX-57 if you plan to OC cuz it's pretty much maxed out already. The lower rated chips are actually identical except for the stock clock. OC it, and you pretty much get the better chip for a cheaper price.

RAM. You really don't need to spend much on RAM. The performance increase from better ram is pretty minimal on AMD based systems. You might as well save money and get the cheapest ram such as OCZ value ram. One problem is the fact that DFI mobos are pretty picky w/ the type of ram you get. So just get the cheapest ram that would run on a DFI mobo (such as OCZ Performance) and you will be fine.

PSU. Really important. Like cases, this is pretty subjective. If you like silence, I would suggest the Seasonic S12 series PSU.

That forms the core of your system. The rest I'm sure you can figure out yourself.

I disagree on the OC'ing comment.

While a 3700 (sticking with related cores, the Venice's arent included) will overclock to a higher percentage (lets say it gets 2.7GHz, thats 25% increase) it still will not do better then a FX-57 (but by all means, i do see the 57 a waste unless you really have the money for it)

But a FX-57 can easily reach 3.0 and higher, while a 3700+ will struggle significantly to do this (its just that the FX-57 wont have as high of an overclock percentage, in this case 3.0GHz on a 57 is a 10% or so overclock)

Just because its a higher Core clock doesnt mean it wont overclock as much as other chips of lesser clock speeds

Dang, thanks guys!!!! Im still a little undecided on the processor, should i go for it all and get the 4800 or cut back and get the slower 3800 or even a single core??? Alright i am definetly getting at least one 7800gtx. Case is undecided but those stackers do sound good(but dont look all that great). Monitor=an 17+ lcd with 8ms or less refresh rate. I still need a good cooling system...water or air?

Is this your first build? Either way, stick w/ air for now. Water are for experienced builders, and you are more likely to run into compatibilty/mounting problems. You really have to do research to make sure all the stuff will fit.

The current top pick HSF for most builders is the Thermalright XP-90 HS paired w/ a Panaflo 92mm fan. jab-tech.com is a pretty good site that specializes in cooling devices.
