My family is planning a trip to the SF area next month. I want to do some camping, as well as sightseeing in the SF bay area. We have 10 total days.

We were thinking of spending a few days in a hotel in the city, to see the cable cars, China town, Fisherman's Wharf. Perhaps a side trip down to Monteray Bay Aquarium on one day (we will have a rent-a-car).

Any other suggestions in the city areas? I have a 4 year old and an 8 year old (keep in mind).

Also, the remainder of the days, I'd like to go camping outside the SF area, any suggestions?

My daugther wanted to camp by the ocean - is there anything like that within driving distance?

How about inland camping - mountains or something (central interior east of SF)?

Any suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks in advance for any help you may provide. :)

Go up Twin Peaks at night and view the Bay area. Remeber to bring a jacket, it gets a little chilly.

Camping by the Ocean: New Brighton State Beach in Santa Cruz County. The campground is nice, lots of trees, and sits on top of a cliff, with a beach at the bottom. You walk down one of the roads at the campground to the beach. It's a nice campground, and a nice beach. It's clean, and the waves are always small so you can go swimming with the kids if you want. It's really not very far away from civilization. Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing is up to you, but it's only a mile or so from the Capitola village which is a touristy kind of shopping place.

The place is on the coast about 2/3 of the way from SF to Monterey.
