Hi, I need help deciding on a phone.

requirements: android or iphone, no other OSes allowed (work requirement)
personal requirements: nice (still) camera, decent video camera nice but not needed
ability to mess around with it (jailbreak/root) because I like to mess with things

portability: smallish preferred, battery life not that important

primary uses: phone, camera, gmail, aim+gchat, mp3 player, googlemaps.

hardware preferences:
good camera, good screen, non-flimsy case

I am not locked into any single carrier and have no existing phone.

currently looking at:
atrix 4g, iphone 4g, maybe an htc model if someone has a specific recommendation

thanks

edit: work is covering the upfront cost of the phone, so that isn't much of an issue within reason

We need a carrier(s) to start with. I understand your not locked to anyone but who are the better coverage providers in the areas you frequent? Always start with the carrier and then move to phone choices.

Go with Sprint EVO 4G just because you like Google then Android is for you.

Google maps = android. iOS has maps but not navigation. I'd look at a Nexus S maybe, the Evo is good but the hardware is a bit older.

i wouldnt get atrix (supposedly slow "4g" and buggy) or iphone4 (a little old at this point). if you want lte get charge, if you want a faster 3g phone get droid x2

I'm in pittsburgh. both verizon and att have good coverage, tohe others have good-enough coverage. There is some 4g but not very widespread from what I hear.

checking out the other phones mentioned, thanks for the recommendations

If you like to tinker with stuff, you probably want android. You can jailbreak iphone to install other apps, but theres still not that much customization to do, where with android you can do near everything.

For smallish, you might want to stick with one of the 3.7-4" phones, galaxy s, incredible s, nexus s
