Help me with my grammar in this paragraph

Here it is:

As a person who loves history, once I heard that Frank Miller, one of my favorite directors would end up end up taking the story of 300 to the big screen, it made me very excited. Furthermore, I just love history based action movies. In fact the other movies that are in my top 3 are Gladiator, which is based in Ancient Rome; and Braveheart, based in the late middle ages Scotland.

I'm just starting college and pretty rusting with my commas and semi colons.

Can we re-write the sentence or only correct punctuation?

I'd prefer to only correct punctuation, but if it needs a rewrite then show me that too.

As a lover of history, I was excited to hear Frank Miller, one of my favourite directors, take up the story of 300 to the big screen. I just love history based action movies; other movies in my top 3 are Gladiator and Braveheart, based in Ancient Rome and Scotland respectively.
