I could really use some help with my english final. I have to do a research paper on hybrid cars. I need 10 different sources of information. With the teacher's approval a survey or a poll, counts as one. :) If you people would help out that would be great!! Just fill out the poll and if you have any comments just post them below. I would be able to quote them in my paper. No names needed, I will use your user ID.

Not 100%, but I'm pretty sure hybrids cost more to the user than a gasoline car even right now. Case in point: The Civic hybrid. Not to mention the unpopularity and inconvenience of an electric vehicle. Hybrids/electrics have to show me significant savings money wise, show the same power, and look like a normal/good car instead of those tiny monstrosities they are.

Hybrid, electric and other types of non-combustion engines are the wave of the future once the oil runs out or it becomes to expensive or the oil companies an OPEC lose their grip on us.

If I bought a hybrid I could drive in the local Kremlin lanes. That is the only reason I would consider buying one but I doubt I ever would since I use my car for more than commuting.

hmm...my high school physics teacher has made his own engine that is better than all of those. he's just waiting on the international patents to go through.

Ideally a hybrid, but I would want them to redesign for safety and eventually aesthetics. I say this not because I don't love "macho" vehicles, but I think that we can all live just fine with more environmentally friendly forms of transportation.

It depends on the situation.

As a daily driver, I'd consider a hybrid if there were one available that was mid-size or full-size or sporty. If I'm buying a car that can't haul a bunch of people around, then I want a car that handles like a dream and is a blast to drive.

I would never consider an electric because I routinely put 250+ miles on my car in a single trip, and then drive around a lot when I get to my destination. The range and charging times for electrics make them prohibitively inconvenient for me.

Given the current state of technology and my current budget, I'm pretty sure that my next car will be gasoline powered. Once Hybrid technology comes down in price and becomes more common I think it's a cinch that I'll end up owning one.

Of course, this only holds for a daily driver. I'll always have a motorcycle and a project car around too, and I don't see a hybrid having enough character to become a project of mine.

Do you think we'll be able to keep up our current use of fossil fuels for 10 years without change in price/availability? In the UK petrol (gas) costs a lot more than other fuels hybrids use, so hybrids can produce great saving (1/2 the cost for fuel), so in some cases it's better to go hybrid, and it helps use less fossil fuels and keeps pollution down a bit afaik, so there are many plus points for hybrids. It's a shame that some people don't seem to care about the environment though (I am one of those people though, I voted gas).

Sure... I can just see the Hollywood drama now. Nerdy high school teacher is shunned by the major automakers, toils for years as a teacher, and finally ends up putting them all out of business, getting the girl of his dreams in the process (hey, this is a movie).
