Im not sure how to do it. Ive hooked my camcorder to it but Im not sure what to do next. Its not as easy as usb to where it automaticcly detects it.
Thanks

I can't offer you any advice, I don't have that card, but meanwhile this may be of some help.
here's a LINK to Creative's SB1394 Port FAQ's ...that may help you out, or at least until someone that has the card can offer you better advice.

I use my audigy firewire port to transfer video quite a bit with my Sony camcorder and it works great. Give us some more details...

What OS are you using?

I not familiar will firenet, is it editing software? If not do you have editing software?

When you hooked up your camcorder did you system detect it? (You will have to turn the camcorder on to VCR after you plug in the firewire connection).

Im using win 98. I just installed firenet because thats what came with the card. (on the installition disc) I dont know what to do next. I plug my camcorder in and my computer doesnt detect it.
Im not sure how to get going.

It looks like firenet 2.0 is used to network pcs through the firewire port. Do I need to buy addition software to get this going for my camcorder? I thought It would come with the card.

Someone who has this card please give me some input.

You will need some kind of video capture/editting software like Adobe Premiere or similar. Don't bother with Pinnacle because AFAIK their software only works with their hardware...at least that was the case with my Studio DV setup.

Thanks for your help. The only software I have is what came with the card. So I guess I dont have any. Is there something you recommend? How much will this cost me? Is their anything I can download off the net for free? I don't need anything fancy. I just assumed the card would come with the software. I quess not?

Thanks again for your help

<< Im using win 98 >>

Can we assume 2nd edition, because under recommendations at Creative it states:

<< Certain features or functionality such as SB1394 application are not supported by Windows® first edtion. We recommend that you upgrade to Windows 98SE or later versions. >>

Just trying to help, thats all.

Yes, it is 2nd edition. Do I need these software editing programs just to download the video from my camcorder to my pc? Is there something free I can get off the net? I dont need to tweak my video I just want it on my pc in mpg or avi format.

It sounds like you have a fairly new camcorder if it has a firwire port, did your get any software with it? What is the model? You will need some sort of capture program to download the video.

Go here and try the Ulead Video Studio 6 it's new, if you have the Platinum it comes with Video studio 4.0 SE and you can upgrade for half the price. You can download the trial version for 30 days.

The new version supports everything the Pinnacle Studio 7 does.
I have Pinnacle Studio 7 and it works with my Sony camcorder through the creative firewire port.
Ulead here
Pinnacle here
Both are pretty good programs
Firewire net is for linking computers to another 1394 port for networking only.
You need a digital photo program for downloading video to your computer as the ones above.
After you install the programs just hook to the 1394 port, turn the camera on VCD and transfer the video into the program where you can edit crop or whatever you like.
The trial versions will not allow you to do this until you buy the program. Just take a look at both of them and decide wich one you want.
Get the right one for your camcorder AV or DV is usually the choice.
I like both programs, I'm buying the Ulead Video 6 myself as the version I have dosen't do what the new one does.

I have the Audigy Platinum which included the Ulead Video Studio 4.0SE and i also vave Video Suite Platinum and Pinacle...

When i plugged into the audigy it came right up in Ulead... I closed it and started into Pinacle and was on my way.
I believe that only the audigy platinum included the video editing software... you will have to source some.

The FireNet is networking software and isn't related to video functions.

I believe firenet is a software/protocol to setup a firewire network. You need a digital video editing software i do believe. It should have came with your soundblaster application CD. Not the install CD.

I could be wrong but firenet doesn't sound like a digital video editing program. Sounds like something to setup a network using firewire, hence firenet.

You may need to buy the software. that would suck!

Good luck!

You really don't know how to use firewire with a PC? You guys give Mac users such a hard time, but this is simple stuff. Why would you think that you would not need a program to handle DV?

Maybe you should get a Mac, cause it does it for you. And it comes with free software.

I've never had a lot of success with JVC camcorders. I've had a lot more success with Canon and Sony camcorders. JVC really doesn't work a lot of the time.

I'll also second getting a Mac for video editing. It's so much better. the PC industry should be ashamed. Thank god for Apple, built in Firewire ports, iMovie, and Final Cut Pro.

Cuz Digital video just doesnt magically appear on your screen. It requires software to pull it from the camcorder and render it into something you can view on a pc.

<< Maybe you should get a Mac, cause it does it for you. And it comes with free software. >>

Wow, free software and does it for you? That would definitely be worth the extra 500$ and the slower cpu speeds then... (/end sarcasm)

typical stupid user who thinks he knows it all ...

you need software to pull the video from the camcorder the same way your imovie works... works the sameway for your imac genious! what do u think imovie is.. software to pull movies from your dv device ... thats my assumption since the name imovie. i take it it's a video editing software which magicly gets the movies from your camcorder. If not, i will promise there is a protocol that gets the movies for u.

listen genious, computers is not some magical device. It's a philosophical masterpiece. Learn to respect it.

To continue with the constructive advice:

1. Firenet will connect 2 computers via the 1394 port as long as the software is installed in both

2. I couldn't get a JVC to work with either my portable 1394 port or my desktop. My Sony work's great! Newer JVC's supposedly have less problems but you might be out of luck (try calling JVC to be sure)

3. Pinnacle Studio 7 ($99) is a great editing program for the PC - far superior to the free microsoft version. It's not as easy to use as iMovie of course (having personally used both)

I dont really think wepopfresh's comment was that stupid. and i'm pretty sure he's very aware that imovie is just like what everyone else has said about capture software. wepopfresh was just jabbing that the macs come with this software and hardware already, and would have likely recognized the DV right off, and helped jhill already be done with all this. Of course, there'd be relatively limited options, but jhill has said that he does not need those. Give the customer what he wants. I dont see why ppl are so anal about making computers into an elitest heirarchy.

Also, the other comment about "ooo free software, and a slow ass cpu, pu-leez." Free software may not matter to those who know how to not pay for any, but not everyone can do that. As for clocks speed, I suppose the P4's higher clocks automatically make it better than AMD? People pay good money for conveniences, that's the heart of American capitalism. Having the software already installed and practially guaranteed to work in one package is very convenient.

According what I can find on your model, you should have a CD-rom with these programs:
JLIP Video Capture, JLIP Video Producer, Presto! Mr. Photo, Presto! PhotoAlbum, Presto! ImageFolio
Are you saying that you didn't get the cdrom, or that they don't work with firewire?

I had a problem getting my camcorder (sony vx2000) to work with my Audigy Platinum and Premiere. The solution was to make sure that the Microsoft DV Device driver was installed properly.

The Texas Instruments driver is not compatable with much of the software out there. Check your hardware profile and make sure that the device is installed with the right codec. The 1394 bus host controller should be listed as "OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller", and If I had a fire wire cable handy, I would tell you the exact name for the camcorder too, but I forgot my cable at a friend's place...

Hope that helps.
