To keep your price down, might want to go with a Duron, most people just using their PC's to get around online and visit web pages and such will not need anything more, even for gaming, a Duron is still capable of kicking out the FPS required...

I recommend Duron 850, because at least around here where I live the jump from 850-900 is not worth the money.

For a good case, check out Antec cases, If you want a mid-tower you can get an SX840 or something along those lines, or if you want a bigger case, (Not quite full tower) check out the SX1030 and SX1030B. (Alienware style)

For memory most people in the forum will recommend you go with Crucial because of their good price/good quality memory.

I'd say get a 256 stick of either DDR or SDR(PC133).. speaking of DDR or SDR, onto a mobo.. DDR RAM prices are very inexpensive right now so going to a DDR system is a good sensible thing to do except for one thing... the best DDR chipsets aren't quite out yet so it's advisable to either wait for a bit, or get a SDR based system and either stick with that, or just upgrade it in a little while, I have gone with an SDR system and feel it's plenty sufficient for virtually anything I want to do.... I'm going to wait until the KT266A chipset comes out and then upgrade my SDR board.

but for a good mobo, SDR - MSI K7T Turbo-R, EpoX EP-8KTA3, Gigabyte GA-7ZXR, Iwill KK266, ECS K7S5A
those are among the best SDR Athlon boards money can buy..

and for DDR I am not sure because I have never used one, but many people will recommend, EpoX EP-8K7A, Gigabyte GA-7DXR, ECS K7S5A, Asus A7M266

You really can't go too wrong as long as you don't just buy any cheap ghetto board, just make sure you pick a decent brand with a good rep!

Hope what i have written here helps you out... good luck, happy hunting.. :)

Yes, they make a kick arse mobo... I have a K7T Turbo-R Limited Edition and I could not be happier.

Ummmm I disagree I have an msi kt7pro-2a and do not care for it!dont get me wrong ive never had an issue with it other than it is not very tweakable! Had an abit kt7 didnt like that one too much!
I have the Iwill kk266 also and love it! no issues with sblive, its running a 1.33@1.5 stable(10x150)
its the most stable/overclockable board Ive used

Also I would stay away from duron chips and get the tbird prices are decent enough!
256 megs of crucial pc133 sdram is real cheap right now, 30-40 bucks.

pcboost.com from pricewatch has a 1.2ghz tbird(266 fsb), iwill kk266 for 199$
256MB, 168-pin DIMM. Upgrade for Iwill KK266 System pc133 cas2 35.99$ (*free 2 day fedex*)
microx-press.com has the antec SX1030 FS 300W for 95$

40-50$ under what you want to spend!

Since you need to buy memory, I would suggest getting a DDR solution. The fastest chipset available right now in DDR is the SiS 735 and it is only available in the ECS K7S5A. This is a great board for regular operation and very inexpensive, but is you want a lot of overclocking features, than it isn't for you. For more overclocking features go for the Epox 8K7A+. This is much more expensive (mainly because of the AMD 761 northbridge and onboard RAID) but the board is very good and has a lot of overclocking features. As for the CPU, prices are so good now, I would say go for a 1.0 or even a 1.2 GHz T-bird.

Yes as long as you get a 300 watt amd approved ps!
I would suggest one that has cooling options(case fans) amd chips run hot!

m2 super...thanks ... I went with your advise on this one and ordered everything that you listed.... That should work out really nice. That case looks awesome on the inside... Shipping kicked the price of each item up a bit, but It still was not bad.

Thanks for finding that for me...

You are my valentine:eek:
