Why so cheap? Its Socket 478, single channel DDR, SATA 150, AC97, mATX, and on sale. Pretty much all yesterday's technology except for the PCI Express. Great if you already have a Socket 478 CPU and some DDR, but I wouldn't buy those components just to use the board.

ASRock makes decent stuff and has above average BIOS refinement for a value brand. This board is newly released though, so it doesn't have many BIOS updates.

Don't intel platforms take it in the pants pretty bad when running single channel?

Not Prescott or Northwood. Gallatin, maybe.

A good single-channel controller like VIA's has shown to result in not more than 10% real-world performance hit compared with top performing dual-channel boards based on i865PE and i875P (with PAT enabled), typically not more than 5%.
