Get the Antec Truepower, they are super awesome, dual fan, and quiet! Totally beats the Enermax ones (I dumped them all already)

You should look at Antec,Enermax,Sparkle,Ehance PSUs,they are all good, you don`t need to buy a Antec Truepower PSU,even their normal models are good.

more or less. But the antec seem to have a tad more stable output, otherwise it should be just fine which ever one you choose.

Antec power supplies are better than Enermax power supplies (save the Enermax 550 watt. which is as good) because they have less voltage deviation and a higher skew rate. The two best PSU makers in the industry are Antec and PC Power and Cooling. Personally, I prefer PC Power and Cooling as they have more output on the 5v rail than Antec (typically) and are a bit more silent, but it really depends on your needs and opinions.

if your gonna end up spending over $50 for a new PS.... you might as well get a new case with a PS in it... for $84 shipped you can have a new chieftec/ antec sx840 with a 420 watt CWT/antec power supply.

that way not only do you get a 420 watt PS... you get a dope new case!

Daovonnaex: antec doesn't even make thier own PS's, they OEM them from a company called CWT(channel well tech) same deal with their cases, OEM chieftec's.

Do a search. There has to be at least 5 posts a day on someone asking what is a good powersupply

Hey just a heads up, watch out for the Antec "True Power" a lot of people have been having very low 5v and 12v readings on this... I forgot where I saw this article, but just for you info... Look for the basic 400w Antec

My enermax 650w runs my vapochill:D my antec 400w random restarts and posts about 70% of the time ;)

Honestly though, if you arent powering some crazy stuff, the brand matters a lot more than the W rating, i HIGHLY reccomend Antec or Enermax power supplys.

The motherboard being cooked by the power supply actually isnt that uncommon, just be thankful they dont cook the whole rig, as the mobo usually takes the kill jolt for the team ;)

I've been running a 300W $19 CompUSA special in my OC'd 1.4ghz/512MB Tbird box for the better part of 2 years now. Before that, this P/S was supplying a dual Celery BP6. Maybe I got lucky and got a good one.

Hey Gillette,

"Out of the skillet and into the frying pan" is what a 400x $40 - 50 PS will get you. NOTHING in that price range is worth it. Avoid DEER and ALLIED as they a very trouble prone along with the most recent CompUSA stuff. Comp's 400w is much lighter than a Sparkle 250w supply. I replace the Comp's very often but I know that price sure looks enticing.

Your best bet is to find a PS whose model number begins with FSP400-xxx as this will mean it was made by the Fortron/Source Group which includes Sparkle. Since cross-branding is prevalent in the PS industry focus on that model number and then source the lowest price. Should be around $70 - $95 USD. PC Power and Cooling used both Sparkle and Zippy/Emacs since they don't actually mfg power supplies.

Look for brand names like Aopen FSPxxx-xx or Fortron FSPxxx-xx or Powerman FSPxxx-xx or Sparkle FSPxxx-xx etc etc.

Good luck!

Another thumbs up for the Fortron/Sparkle/Powerman 300W PSUs...

I don't really care who makes these but, personally I've had very good experiences with the Antec PP-303X/303XP... so another thumbs up for that one as well! I guess Antec at least chooses good products to repackage/relabel.

Rarotonga, would you happen to know what is the stock 80mm fan used with "Fortron/Source Group" PSUs?

Hey Biggs,

I'm not at the shop but I believe they are Global 80mm ball bearing. If it was up to me, I would use a Papst, Comair or Sanyo Denki fans. Can't really vouch for the Global (if that's correct) much one way or another as I've never had one come back defective.

Take it easy.
