I currently have a dvd rom a dvd burner and 2 hard drives. I want to add a cd burner so I only use my dvd burner to burn dvds. I need a pci controller card. It doesn't have to support raid but if I get one with raid does my motherboard have to support raid in order for it to work? Is there anything cheap would you reccomend?

Also I have a ecs k7s5a motherboard, athlon 1700 xp, 512 megs ddr ram, 2 80 gig hard drives, gforce 3 ti 200, soundblaster audigy sound card,tv tuner card, dvd rom and a dvd burner. This is all ran on an enlight 340 watt PSU. If I add a cd burner with an ata controller card do you think I would be maxing out my PSU? The last thing I want to do I start having problems with my PSU.

Thanks for any help.

you shouldnt run into problems if you get a card and a cdrw burner. if you do, all that means is a new PSU. One of the signs of a PSU which is not enough for your system is random reboots.

I recommend a NON RAID controller if you plan on putting any non-HDD drives on it (zip, optical, etc). I have always recommended promise controllers. I have 3 of them in various systems. if you want a RAID controller, then you cannot put any optical drives on them since they only do HDDs.

as for the motherboard support for raid, they are independent systems parts, so there is no need for any concerns if you get a pci card for RAID.
