HELP ME! WHAT DO I BUY?!?! 1700 OR 2100???

I've been torn as to which of these 2 cards to get. Sure I don't really NEED either of them, but all this overclocking stuff has just gotten me excited 🙂 So the question, which do you think I should buy? And since it will be OEM, which HSF should I get? I have a coolermaster on my 1600+ now that I *could* use. It's keeping that Palamino at under 50C always.

I guess you should base your decision over price/performance, how much I should *probably* be able to overclock the cards (I assume my memory will be holding me back since it's only 2100, and my MOBO isn't the best either), and anything else that you think I should take into consideration.

Thanks ahead of time!

Sorry if this isn't even related to your question, but if you don't need it, don't get it just to overclock... get yourself something more useful with that money.

i buy to overclock all the time, it's an addition 😀 ....i've recently had 2 xp1600 agoias, a tbred 1700, a xp2200, and i have 2 tbred 2100s right now. i just got the second one today....will be trying it out later. if you want high overclocks, get the tbred 2100 and a slk-800 hs/fan.
the tbred 1700 will probably get you around 1.8-2.0ghz (unless you're really lucky), and the 2100 will get you around 2.1-2.3 (unless you're lucky and get 2.4-2.5).
good luck.

Had the same question myself a month ago. Choosed the 1700+.
Between 57$ and 89$, I kind of regret I opted for the 1700+.
Ooh, the 1700+ runs at 1860MHz now. (I will always ask myself now, where would I be with 2100+...)

check your mobo support if it holds at least 2700+ , you'd better get 2100+. if not, buy 1700+ and OC it till closing mobo's limit.

got my 1700+ at 2075mhz right now....nice and stable too...going to try for even higher when i get my new memory

if you get a 1700+ t-bred b it will overclock slightly less than the 2100+ t-bred b
the yeilds on the 2100+ don't seem to be drastically better. You might get an extra 100-300mhz at the most
so if you want the little extra opt for the 2100+
get an slk-800 tho it's the best heatsink around right now

Actaeon, what voltage/cooling ???

I can get my 1700+ to 2.4 @ 2.15v

Yeah, that's what I've heard 100-300 MHz slower usually.

I don't know why, but the number of people I see running 1700+ Tbred B's at 2V or more is WAY higher than the number of 2100+ users, and still similar/lower o/cs.

I got myself the 2100+ (ordered yesterday), just for a more or less guaranteed 2.2 GHz on air (with low voltage, I only want to put 1.65-1.7V in there) as opposed to the ~2 GHz most people seem to be getting at that same voltage with a 1700+ JIUHB.

I'm upgrading from a 1700+ Tbred A I got very recently (it's at 1.83-1.9 GHz).

Personally, I'd recommend the 2100+ just because it's the faster one and not too much more expensive, but if you really, really think you don't need the extra speed then get the 1700+, which will probably be a similar o/c anyways.

btw, Barton 3000+ chips w/ 512K L2 are just showing up on PriceWatch now, so if that gets you REALLY excited then you might want to hold off. I'm really more than satisfied with my 1700+ Tbred, but just want the 2100+ to play with for awhile so I can keep my sanity this semester 😉 !

Cooler:
Alpha PAL8045

Voltage:
1.9v

I love the chip, if you plan on overclocking, I highly suggest the 2100+. While the 1700+ is just as good OCing, it requires more voltage in most cases.
