Help me unlock the wonders of the world! Namely, can I boot a laptop off a USB CD-ROM?

The pyramids do not even compare to this. Anyway, the post says it all, is it possible to boot a laptop off of a USB cd-rom?

Not unless the BIOS has specific support for it.

Just about all USB devices require an OS driver...one that is loaded AFTER the operating system has been loaded.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

My work has been dealing with this. While I haven't been involved in it, what I have overheard is that computers with the Phoenix BIOS 6.04 (or is it 6.4) have support for bootable USB media or something like that. It was suggested a while ago that you could create a bootable diskette with USB drivers. I think they looked into that at work and probably grew tired of it.
