i was sitting at dinner today, drinking a glass of chocolate milk and my freind said to me:

"dude, why are you copying me? i started this chocolate milk fad a while ago and now everybody is drinking it.. you're only drinking it becuase you saw me with some"

the funny thing was- he sounded really upset by this- like i was cramping his style or moving in his terroritory or something... (you'd think i was hitting on his girlfreind) and it made me think, a lot of people are like this. My girlfreind for instance, spent 100 dollars on a nice pair of shoes. Two weeks later she saw some other girls with those same shoes and went off-

"why all these girls have to copy me? why cant they just be original and get their own shoes"

and she hasnt worn those shoes since... This made me think more- i used to be (still am) a blink 182 fan.. back before the 'all the small things' days. And some of my freinds were too. And then as soon as blink 182 "sold out" and my freinds got really pissed at them for 'selling out' and stopped listening to them.

why do people get upset when something becomes popular? obviously stuff becomes poplular for a reason, becuase it is good. Why can't they just accept that?

so does anybody else notice stuff like this- or is it just me?

I think a lot of people simply like to be unique, or to be part of a crowd which distingushes them.

gopunk- i'm only 21. But yeah, i can live with that-- i started the fad in the northern virginia area. i started lots of fads....

but when i see people copying, i'm more flattered than anythign else. I think "i must be doing something right if people are copying me" i dont say "damn those bastards--- you cant wear khaki's becuase i wore them first'

for me it depends, if they show respect for the master, i'm cool with them, but if they're all cocky and acting like *they* started the trend, then i get pissed ;)

i kind of understand about the bands, it really sucks to have a band you really like, then all of the sudden everywhere you go these annoying 13 year old girls are screaming about them, and the concerts are all crowded all of the sudden. i woudln't call them sellouts and stop listening, but i'd be annoyed.

lol, sorry but I wish I was in that time and space in life where my worries were that simple..

I know, I woke up and couldn't find any clean socks. Ah, the troubles...

Look Rallispec, why do you think virginity is valued? It's because there's nothing like being the first, like knowing that one is not compared to anything or anyone. It's the illusion that we are "delicate flowers" or special human beings and that we have worth because we thought up of something. You realize what sort of a high and security that brings? In a world where nothing seems real, where things change rapidly, that sort of security is what humans crave. When someone invents, it is a product of the ego, an extension of the self, a creation of innovation and genius. Others want to experience that since they lack it. And they absorb that, which is taken by the creator as an invasion into the self by the outside world. It demolishes walls. Walls are very painful to demolish, it means confronting oneself in the austerity of one's mind and admitting and recognizing the futility of existence. That is hard to do.

So the people invent, get copied, try to invent again and can't knowing that genius is a fletting gift and so they do not have the security they did and they rebel against those who took it away. They proclaim righteousness and try to get the lost high back and regain the security because the other alternative is bleak.

And that's what happens. Both parties, the copiers, and the creators are mad and neurotic. That's how humans are usually.

Cheers ! :)

I think it stems from their insecurites. That person probably wants to be unique and all, and hates it when he is not the center of attention. When someone else possess what he has, he no longer is "unique" and gets angre. Frankly, I think its very childish. And personally, I don't really care if someone copies me, I've always said, WE CAN BE TWIN DRAGONS!

WE CAN BE TWIN DRAGONS!

Can I be the dragon who acts like an arse and still gets all the girls? (poking fun at "why don't girls like me" threads) :D

Cheers ! :)
