I just found out yesterday that lightening took out all of my neighbors household appliances, puter, etc... I have decided to assemble him a pc out of all the Frankenstein parts I have in my closet. Only one problem, it freezes constantly!

Here are the components.

Biostar mobo w/ intergrated sound
300a Celeron w/ a Golden orb cooler
96 megs of pc 100 (1 64 and 1 32)
trio 64+ 4 meg pci video card
Lucent 56k win modem
2.5 gig WD hard drive
40x cd
brand new 300 watt ps
cheap compgeeks case

It installed Windows 98 fine, but it will freeze up all the tim at the desktop, or when I'm on the net. It also sometims will not boot warm. I bought a new ps, as i thought the old one wasn't giving enough juice, but it still doesn't stop it. I'm now officially out of ideas! Help!

Could be the motherboard, the CPU, the memory, or the PS...

If you have known-good replacement parts, swap out each component one at a time until you figure out which one it is.

you need to ask this in technical support forum.

but... since you are trying to help out your neighbor...
i'll give it a shot.

from the surface, it sounds like a driver issue.

is your cpu o/c'ed?
if so.. was it o/ced when installing win98?
