So I used the 3.5 out via the adapter on my myTouch and connected that to the audio in on my car deck. I made sure I enabled the settings on the deck but couldn't get any sound.

Do you think that because that adapter/jack is also for a mic input that could have something to do with it? There has to be something simple that I am missing.

Got your phone media volume all the way up right? For some reason doing this in my car I have to have the levels a lot higher than in other uses.

No. As long as that is a stereo 3.5mm male plug on both ends, the mic capabilities should not interfere. Did you try it with the handset not connected yet?

Are you using a 3 ring 3.5mm cable when you should be using a 2 ring 3.5mm cable?

edit: If you don't know, look out many rings are on the jack going into the phone. If there are 3 rings, pull the cable out slightly so just the first 2 rings are inserted. If it works at all, then you need to get a new cable.

I had to buy a small headphone amp for my car. I bought a fiio E3 off ebay for about $6 shipped. My ipod touch just could not put out enough power and sounded muted and tinny. The amp perked things right up and my ipod sounded incredible out of the car after that. Oddly enough, neither mine nor my wife's blackberrys need the amp, they do good plugged right in.
