As long as this mess has been going on surrounding the Conroe chips, I've been trying to find a logical rationale for what is happening. Is it like the grocery store - move out the old inventory first before making the new available?
I'm (almost) willing to bet that production lines have been rolling out these chips for at least the last six months. Is it the JIT inventory philosophy?
Anyone have a clue as to what is going on? Distrubitors don't have, retailers don't have, somebody has - is it Intel. Do they have a warehouse somewhere packed to the roof with Conroes?
Even after Dell, Gateway and others get theirs there still should be enough for Joe Blow on main street to get one. The home builder market is no where as large as Dell. What's behind all of this? Try and imagine how many of the tiny, tiny microchips a frabicator can produce in a day.
