OCguy you do make sense not everyone can buy a $500-$800 card to max graphics so it is logical that games will not exceed 4g's of vram for quite a while

~ 81.96% of PC gamers have 2GB of VRAM or less, including 35% sitting on 1GB.

Consoles, on games like Watchdogs, are not using more than 2GB of VRAM, note even close. The system RAM and OS are very hungry, and the shaders do not cause errors like they do in PC ports.

So, ask yourself, who is going to pay someone to write games that take up so much VRAM, that a very minor percentage of gamers will be able to play them?

Most games, particularly console ports, are made for the lowest common denominator. Until someone can convincingly overcome such specific data, don't listen to them.

Edit: I'm glad you mentioned this. Lots of folks are here getting on the 6GB+ train.

Even with the decent hardware I have, I still get hiccups. I could even play at 1080p and still get some slowdown, lol. I've been fooling around with the PC for years and in the past year, I realize that sometimes it's just easier to turn something down. Go look for a guide on optimal settings and save some dollars.

I'm not going to go out of my way to spend cash on special versions of cards w/more memory that don't have enough power anyway -- if I run into that sort of situation, I'll be turning some stuff down to get the FPS to 60. I know some folks, like my brother, are good with 30FPS and more eye candy even if the lower FPS is noticeable.

So in your opinion, I will stay with 470 SC or get the 780 3GB or wait for 800 series?

Thanks very much :p but Zodac is a good company like EVGA?

As has been said on the forums for a while now, no 6GB 780 card is worth the price premium right now. It's absurd to pay $550-600 for a 6GB 780 that performs no better than an after-market R9 290 card that goes for $370-400. The best way to "future-proof" your PC for 3-4 years is to upgrade the GPU more often. In this case, spending $550+ on 6GB 780 is one of the worst decisions over getting a stop-gap 1.5-2 year card like R9 290 and then grabbing yourself a 20nm NV/AMD card. If you prefer NV, find a good 780 3GB like Asus DCUII or MSI Gaming or Gigabyte Windforce 3x and get it. If a lot more games start using > 3GB of VRAM at 1080p, you can always sell it and see what NV/AMD cards are there.

Generally speaking, buying a near end of the generation $550-600 28nm card and keeping it for 3-4 years is the worst strategy for PC gaming. If GTX780 just came out and it was cutting edge, that would be understandable.

Let me say it like this, I have NEVER heard one bad thing about them.
If you look on google and search zotac they are no worse or better than any other Nvidia type.
the main exception would be if you had to return the card for any reason?
EVGA is one of if not the best with that.
All in all i have to agree with russiansensation, this is a bad time to me shelling out $500+ for a card. i know i made a mistake a few days ago and i hate to see others about to do the same.
wait for the 800's man it is your best bet

I understand your wanting to get a card now and not 5-8 months from now
but so many are saying the 3g vram will be a issue real soon.
the the only other option you have is to wait for the 780 6g to be in stock and no one knows when that will be?
if you do go 780 3g you are doing what i am facing right now and that is
will my card get me another 1-2 years on 1080 gaming maxed? i doubt it but could be wrong?
watch dogs is a really piss poor example to use to judge what vram a card needs but then you got guys saying witcher 3 will use more than 3g's?
it never ends man!;)

Yes you are perfect. I boguht my eVGA GTX 470 in 2011, and it was releasd a year before.. I was really amazed but now...

Yes those RPGs they tend to use more VRAM like Witchers but I only used to play GTA and Watchdogs that looks like an RPG game..

basically the same here, i had a 760 for over 2 years and really wanted a more powerful card. I did not have enough for a 780ti and
i did not want to wait for 2015 until the 800 series so i bought a 780.
only time will tell if i did the wrong thing?
as of right now i do not regret it;)

You could always buy a 760 4GB or R9 270X 4GB right now, although they're a bit too slow to take full use of that 4GB, but can get you by in Skyrim mods and perhaps Watch_Dogs.

just called EVGA again and still no news on the 6'g versions.
at this point you may as well start thinking about a 3g 780 now or just hold off for the 800 series?
edit: you can also get a 4g 770 classified and OC the crap out of it?
these are pretty damn good once oc'ed

that's why, because I am from Europe, Anyway I went to a conclusion finally I think... I will wait the 800 series... This is because of two reasons.

1. Most people including you suggested that..

2. Today I installed Murdered Soul Suspect and I was really amazed! I set everything to high even my resolution I made it 1920 x 1080 I only turned off Vertical Sync and the FPS didn't get below 50!!! I was getting between 50 and 65 FPS (Average 55). So I think is that watch dogs is the problem as many people told me...

I know that Watch dogs use lots of processing power, because Murdered soul suspect is not an open world... but still its not worth it I think to upgrade now... What do you think?

dude thats wild i was just watchin the walkthrough of murdered soul suspect!
you are doing the right thing, you cant base this purchase on just watch dogs and hey you can always still get a 780 with 6g later.
maybe the 780 6g will be in stock soon and you may change your mind?
could have been a blessing in disguise they were out of stock right?

Tell anyone who says so that they are wrong.

Telling you to look at next gen games like Star Citizen and still say that you think they are wrong. Yes, it is only pre-alpha, and yes there is a lot of work to be done. But, the pre-alpha engine is also only 32bit, and they are still working on converting to the 64bit engine because the map sizes available in 32bits is a limiting factor for the game (and they have said even 64bit is limiting them). If you for a moment realize that 32bits is too small to hold the co-ordinate numbers just for the XYZ for the map size, you will very quickly realize that the number of polys and texture maps that will need to be available to be displayed at once on a map of that size is not just doubling from existing games, but actually getting 4,294,967,296 times larger in all three dimensions!
