Help me think of this really weird old movie

Okay, so I honestly don't remember much about it, but when I was in college I took this film class and one of the movies we watched was the really strange foreign film that was the weirdest thing I ever saw, but I can't remember what it was called. The thing I remember most about it was this one traffic jam scene that lasted like 10 to 15 minutes; it was one continuous shot, panning left to right, all of this huge traffic jam that just seemed to go on forever. I believe the movie was from the 60's, and I think it was in French. The only other thing I remember was at the end this woman ends up eating her husband, or something... I seem to remember it being a movie commenting on materialism or consumerism or something like that. The traffic jam scene is what it's famous for though... if you've seen it you'd know what I was talking about.

So anyone know it? I think the name of the movie is a day of the week or something, or maybe something to do with a vacation or holiday... anyway it's driving me crazy not being able to think of it. Thanks.
