Heh just realized you are using dual monitors with HD7850.

If im not mistaken AMD GPUs work at 3D clocks when dual monitors are used and they never down-clock when Idle. That means your GPU is working at 800MHz (or more if you have OCed) instead of 300MHz.

Have a look with GPUz and if that is whats happening, you better search for a solution in that department first.

mine's at 300 right now. sometimes jumps to 450 but almost always at 300

no wy man my it takes all that too cool my fx its crazy

Some other things you can do to help lower cooling costs include bubble-wrapping your windows, aggressively turning off and unplugging things you're not using, and turning on fans to circulate air (giving the perception that it's cooler).

I can get my 8350 w/16GB DDR3-1600, 990FX, 1 SSD, 7950, and 7 fans to idle around 65W at the wall at 4GHz. CnQ enabled, C1E enabled, and just manually undervolt. Undervolting doesn't do much for idle (but does for loads) - idle is more about the total platform consumption.

Either CnQ or C1E will have a large effect on idle voltage, enabling both will help a little more but not much. I've never had issue with CnQ and overclocking (beyond a 18.5x multi limit on Thuban/Phenom 2 for CnQ to work).

FYI, AMD dual monitor adds about 30W to idle when I last tested it on my 7950 (290/x may be different), since the GPU VRAM need to run at higher clocks. My 780 doesn't do this and the GPU runs at the lowest clocks with dual monitors.

For an entire house.

You realize that's the idea behind central AC Right? Most people who have central AC don't have dedicated window units, and in fact most HOA's around here won't even allow you to have a window unit so you don't exactly have an option if you want to cool the place down.

Oh look, Irony!

It doesn't matter what options you have, both the a 4KW and a 1KW AC unit will use the same amount of energy to cool the place.

Considering the OP is not going to change monitors we are talking about a difference of around 20-50W here, the equivalent of an incandescent light bulb, and you're ready to add that energy towards the total that needs to be cooled on a warm summer day. The tree and the forest.

If you actually worry about power consumption. Start by measuring the usage of your fridge/freezer as the first thing.
