Help me stop a leecher........

Someone on our network is being a little bandwidth wh0re. When asked about it they act like they don't know.

I need something to deter this. Any suggestions (i.e. something using his ip to deter this). Don't want to firewall him, he just needs the severity of his actions pointed out in a creative way.

porn.

in office we have T1, but we also recently setup DSL for a few 'select' users and im hogging all 1.5M... i use it to download and remote access my home computer.

until someone tells me to stop (which i doubt since i changed the password to the router) i gonna keep doing this

unplug cat 5 cable from switch

seems simple enough.

yeah i do not see the problem. Log all information and take it to managment if it continues. seems really easy to me.

He is management, so I need something a little more creative. Unplugging him is not an option, yet anyway.....

Are there and denial of service apps I can run against his ip??

Where is this happening? I can't believe it's happening in a work environment - this wouldn't even be an issue to bring up here. Instead, we'd be seeing a post: "coworker fired for downloading porn" or "coworker fired for downloading copyrighted ____"

If the guy is an idiot AND you can get to his computer, I'd go the hosts file route. Figure out what he's doing and reroute things like suprnova, etc. to other sites (not goatse or he'll suspect a virus and some nice person will solve his problem)... send suprnova.org to suprnova.com instead... he'll never figure it out. Have the hosts file on a CD so you can load it and install it quickly when he's not looking.

In tribute to Adul: Put him on the punishment hub! 🙂

If you don't have one of those, then can you program the switch to throttle his available bandwidth on the network?

Tell me more......this sounds do-able

Adul posted a few years back about a spare Ethernet hub he had which was old and slow. When he was faced with a "problem child", he connected the user to that hub (aka the punishment hub).

There may be a way you can program your switch or hub to throttle the bandwidth on a particular port. I don't know exactly what you would have to do to make it work, I'm only suggesting it may be possible.

WTH?
What is he doing? Its not really that porn post above is it? If so get him fired. Done deal.
I'm assuming that post is a joke, so whatever the real issue is explain to him what he is doing and why its hurting the company. Feel free to CC his boss on the email so they are aware of the situtation.

This isn't a very hard one to take care of...
