Hi there i am looking for a good CPU. Not sure whether to stray off from Intel and go with AMD now.

Not looking to go with a 2.8 Ghz chip but I am looking to go decent for gaming and stuff. What do you recommend...

AMD OR INTEL?

Well...
If you have the money, as in, you could spend a "hefty" amount on the parts then definitely Intel. Either a 2.66 or 2.8 with the new C1 stepping would be very nice. You are gonna get a lot more posts though, i could go into more detail but they will.

For AMD the current trend is to get the XP1600+ and OC it past Xp2200 speeds.

it doesnt matter really. save the money from the processor and get a radeon 9700 pro. any xp1600 would work fine for a game, same as any p4 1.8a....

games arent really held back by processors now....

I'll second the notion to look more into grafix cards for your money, with at lease a decent proc/mobo/memory system to back it. I have a duron 866 (133X6.5) with a GF4Ti4200 that beats or ties an xp 1800+ with GF3Ti200 in pretty much every game. oh yeah...and the duron is on sdram

P.S. this is until i get my newegg 1600+ and Epox 8k5a+ along with Corsair PC3200 cas2 thats in the mail
