I have an mx300 and ever since changing to the bxmaster motherboard my soundcard randomly does not get detected in windows. Meaning in does not appear in the device manager. Then i reboot and everything is fine. I had this problem in every Os: in win2k, winme and win98. My roomate has a simialr problem but in his case its the network card.
this is what I have

p3 650
bxmaster
geforce 2 gts
mx300
lynksys network card
us robotics 56k modem
usb mouse
regular keyboard.

Anybody know a fix for that?

I've never had this precise problem with the MX300, but when setting up my PC I've noticed that Win 98 never recognizes the card via plug 'n' pray. I've always had to set it up thru control panel & add new hardware. And that is confusing 'cause it has to boot twice in that process but doesn't prompt to reboot, at least for me. It seemed to be installing OK when I got several dark screens with logos in the center plus music - it was downhill from there. Problems with more than one OS suggests the problem is the board or the mobo - maybe.

I actually had this same problem with my MODEM, when I changed to the Aureal Superquad Vortex 2. so it's a similar soundcard.. different problem. I'll tell you all about it.

AKAI Remember, this was on the motherboard I am currently on. I used to have both an ISA modem and Soundcard (Opti 931 to be exact) in it. Well the modem was actually having problems with the modem all the time, in that when the ISA devices would be detected upon BIOS startup (it says detecting Plug and Play Devices I think, I don't remember because it was a while ago), the only time the Modem would be detected was if I shut the computer down for more then 10 seconds.

that means, NO reboot if I want to connect to the internet. Instead I have to be sure that I have shutdown for 10 seconds or more before doing any modem activity. So eventually I got tired of my Soundcard and replaced it with my current Aureal Vortex 2 Superquad. well my MODEM Died..

I replaced it with a PCI hardware 3Com modem soon enough. I suggest you check to be sure that there aren't any IRQ conflicts and that kind of thing. If worse comes to worse, see if you can replace it.

Now that you mentioned it, I remember that also happening to my modem maybe once or twices, but lately its just the sound card. The only problem is this is hard to diagnose because it is random. Sometimes like just now everything gets detected but sometimes I am missing a device.
