Okay, here's the problem. When i open up the properties for me Hard drive, it staes ive used about 36 gb of space. Now, i have about 12gb of music, the windows file contains about 3.5 gb of stuff, The other documents come to 1 gb and all of my installed programs and files therein comprise around 8 or so gig. Now, that all only adds up to 25 at the most. So, my question is where the hell is this other 11gig of stuff? I mean, what's taking it up and how the hell can i get it back????? PLEASE HELP!!!!

Also, I could do with any information about reformating my computer whilst still keeping things on it. I wanna keep the music i got cuz it would be very hard to replace, however, i don't have 20 odd Blanks at my disposal and no zip drive or any other median to keep it on. I need this to stay on me hard drive whilst is reinstall windows.SO, if anybody can helo with this aswell, I'll be very happy. I'm Using XP if that makes any difference to either problem. THanks alot people.

Try doing a search for anything over 15 MB or so, and make sure to include hidden files. Maybe a family member has a sercet stash of "something" you don't know about.;)

You can reinstall windows without deleting files, you should see the option when you put in the CD (at least with WinXP). I dunno what good that would do you though. You can't reformat unless you can either part with all your music or find some way to back it up (like buying another hard drive).

could just be your temp files, or you might have norton installed and your not deleting the protected files.

Perhaps your System Restore information is occupying some of the space (could be a couple of gigabytes in size).
Are you certain that when you originally formated the hard drive you allocated all the space? Perhaps there is an unformated partition on your HD.

And hopefully all that music that is so hard to replace is legitimate... :)
