Help me solve this math problem.

Okay, I'm not sure if I'm reading this right, but it seems like it could be rewritten as y-0.23y = 19339. Is that correct? If so, then keep reading:

First, using the Distribution Property, you can pull out the y to get:
y(1 - 0.23) = 19339
0.77y = 19339

Now, all you have to do is divide each side by 0.77 to get y by itself and your answer:

(0.77y / 0.77) = (19339 / 0.77)
y = ~25116

I'm guessing, however, that there is more to this problem as I would guess you could do what I just did. I have a feeling that I misread what you wrote.

Yeah that is what I neeeded. Like i said i am not good at algebra. My apologies for the lack of insight into this.

Don't be sad. I am sorry it has been over 4 years since I last used algebra to solve for a variable. I am working to get back to college and finish my degree but this blasted economy and all has other plans.

That's good to hear that you're trying to get back to college.

He's older. If he had a book for algebra, he probably wouldn't have had to ask this question.

Guth you can PM me with math questions if you have any more. Glad to help.

This was not a homework question. This was for a thread on a national sales tax. And yes I hate it just as much as you when someone uses this forum for a homework cop out.

Thx. 😉

😵 Now im confused, But I guess the mods are fine with it, soooo, ok good luck with the national sales tax.

Hey, if it makes you feel better I heard that once people start getting into crazy hard advanced math some of them forget how to add 🙂

Well, quickly at least.

Yes, I can vouch for that. I can't add, subtract, multiply, divide, or do basic calculus anymore without my calculator. I can solve nth degree differential equations and 1000x1000 matrices in my head though. 😛
