Hi,

I?ve been working on this problem most of the day, w/o any luck so I?m hoping some of you might have a few ideas. My CPU usage hovers around 60% w/no activity on my part. If I open up IE (or anything) it blows up to 100% and stays there! Task manager indicates nothing is running and CPU idle is at 99%. I?m running WinXP SP2 w/current updates and all of the other software is retail?.no hacked stuff: McAfee, Office XP, etc.

My system:
Epox 9NDA3J (latest) bios 1/11/05
AMD 64 3000+ 939 not oc?d
Arctic-Cooling Silencer 64 Ultra TC L
IBM Deskstar 20GB
WestDig 80GB
Fx5200 vid card (yeah, crappy and on its way out soon)
Antec Sonata Case
56K modem
Audigy 2zs
Hauppauge pvr-150

The CPU temp idles at 42c and CPU voltage is 1.34

I ran the memory through memtest86 for two hours and it came out fine. No problems.

Suggestions???

Thanks,
K

Check your actual Processes. Just because you dont see it in the task manager doesnt mean its not zappin your cpu. It should tell you exactly what is usin your cpu and you can shut down program by program

Azzy64,

Yes, it's a new build. I'll try the process explorer and get back to you. Thanks for the lead.

Looks like the Hardware Interrupts are quite high. According to the app you suggested it maybe due to bad device drivers. Have you much experience with this and narrowing down the drivers?

nope, fraid not... did you install the proper chipset drivers for your epox... also try removing audigy, hauppage and if you can, swap the vid card for an agp card, to rule out some pci problem..

Just found the problem. The Audigy 2zs was causing the havoc. Bum deal though, because it doesn't matter what PCI slot I stick it in, it still runs amuck. Oh well.

Thanks for the input though.

G-d damn Creative. I can't believe they're still in business with such crappy products.

can anybody help me out? i have a sound blaster platinum ex in pci slot 5 w/Epox 9ndaj3 and athlon64 3200+ and came to discover cpu was hovering around 40%. used the program above and found out it was my sound card. seems my bios doesn't let me change the irq around. does anybody have a fix besides moving card to different slots? thanks

seems changing pci slots was only solution. really weird
